McMorrow's second album, Post-Tropical, was released in January 2014. It was noted for its distinct shift in style from the nu-folk of his first album, leaning more towards electronica and ambient sounds. Two singles were released from the album - "Cavalier" and "Red Dust." The album reached the top 30 in the UK and the Netherlands; as well as peaking at number 2 on the Irish album charts.
The Lakes

Took the nerve for unseen, feeling it go untrue
For a say what is true of chaos in too
Then in the quiet it calls again
In our world in our time, give it all miles away
Lives alone at the wildest day and then were taken home
Settled words were gone again were called upon
And down to the lake where the last we go
I was not laid those down below
Oh they been wait, the fall and the row with the trap show failing from
Presence from upon
Harrow winds and falls upon the highs and low
For the side, down to the window
For the side, down to the way on
The song The Lakes by James Vincent McMorrow is about the power of nature and its role in our lives. The lyrics are filled with vivid imagery of lakes, winds, and the highs and lows of life. The song begins by setting the stage for a dream-like state where words and feelings are stowed away. These words are meant to capture the chaos that exists in the world and in ourselves, but they only end up going untrue.
The chorus brings a sense of calm to the chaotic imagery by calling us back to nature. The line "In our world in our time, give it all miles away" suggests the idea that by immersing ourselves in nature we can escape the stresses and chaos of our daily lives. The idea of going to the lake, a place where one can find peace and solace, is repeated in the chorus. The verse following the chorus speaks of those who have gone before us and the presence they still have in our lives. The idea of the high and low, of the winds and falls, speaks to the idea of life being a journey filled with ups and downs.
Overall, The Lakes is a song that celebrates the restorative power of nature and its ability to calm our minds and spirits. It is a song that invites us to return to the natural world and remember our place within it.
