While the whole wide world is fast alseep
You lie awake thinking of the girl
Never even think of counting sheep
While the whole wide world has learned it's lesson
She'd be yours if only she would call
In the wee small hours of the morning
In the wee small hours of the morning
While the whole wide world is fast asleep
You lie awake thinking of the girl
Never even think of counting sheep
While the whole wide world has learned it's lesson
She'd be yours if only she would call
In the wee small hours of the morning
Is the time I miss her most off all
The song "In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning" by Jamie Cullum is a melancholic ballad about someone who cannot stop thinking about a girl they miss. The song sets a mood of solitude and introspection, highlighting that the time at which it is hardest to stop thinking about this girl is during the early hours of the morning when the rest of the world is asleep. The verse "While the whole wide world is fast asleep, you lie awake thinking of the girl, never even think of counting sheep" presents the idea that the singer is tormented by thoughts of this girl to the point that they can't even fall asleep, which is normally the remedy for an active mind during the night.
The chorus of the song, which repeats throughout, suggests that everyone must learn their lesson in life before they can truly understand what they want in a partner, but the singer believes that they already know what they want and that the girl they're thinking about is the one for them. The line "she'd be yours if only she would call" implies that the singer has already tried to reach out to this girl, but they haven't been successful in getting in touch. Perhaps they are reminiscing about the good times they shared together or the moments leading up to the end of their relationship. Regardless, the lyrics of the song capture the longing and sadness felt when one is missing someone they love.

I listened to John Mayers version before this. My mistake. But let's be real too. Frank's songs seem so simple until execution. It's his tone & how he can emote with his voice by doing very little. It's rare & it made him what he is. The only other I can think off that might make this sound good is Michael Bubblé. But he needs to really feel it. Because he can come across like its too easy & lose all the emotion.
