Scott started playing guitar and piano at age seven. He grew up listening to his parents’ classic albums, and was influenced by artists like Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway. Inspired by singer/songwriters Simon and Garfunkel, Jamie Scott formed a duo in college and played acoustic shows in London. During this time, a dying aunt bought him a new piano. For the next three years, Jamie Scott spent his time playing records and writing music.
Music career:
According to his website, Jamie Scott never listened to popular, contemporary music while he was growing up.Jamie started his musical career by pursuing a publishing deal for music written for someone else to sing. When Jamie Scott sent his demo tape to publishers, they responded that they liked his voice and wanted Jamie to sing the songs for himself. Because of this, Jamie Scott signed a contract with Sony Music in 2002. He then teamed up with producer Toby Smith, a former keyboardist from Jamiroquai, to work on his full-length album. As he was working on this album, Jamie Scott played solo shows with only his acoustic guitar. He then played a Blues & Soul magazine tour. Following this, he performed with artists such as Carleen Anderson, Mario Winans, and Ginuwine.
Jamie Scott writes music on his guitar, and always starts with the song first. He insists that he cannot write in a format specifically to get onto the radio. Jamie Scott’s songwriting is a way for him to make sense of life and relationships. The lyrics for his song, “Just” were inspired by “The Prophet” by Khalil Gibran. According to his website, the song, “Searching,” is about trying to make it in the record industry and not listening to people who try to bring you down. But it could also apply to any situation where you lack confidence, but are trying to appear strong.
Jamie Scott’s full-length album, then titled “Soul Searching,” was scheduled to be out in early 2005. However, due to the merger between Sony and BMG, production got delayed. His newest song, “Made,” is on the soundtrack to the motion picture Step Up. Jamie Scott performs the song in the film, and he also has a brief part as the character, Colin. He also plays guitar while Drew Sidora is performing “Til the Dawn.”

With blood on your hands
You're tired of being a stranger
Tied up in his plans
You cry forever
And all you wanna know
Is how you ever got here
Why he ain't loving you
Hope you just don't stop praying
When the water does fall
'Cause standing in the rain
Ain't gonna leave you dry
People say your love pure, one of a kind
Standing in the rain
Ain't gonna leave you dry
People say no
We all fall sometimes
Get burned sometimes
Get cut wide open
Thought you'd learn by now
So why you wanna do this?
Why you wanna fall?
Why you keep pretending?
To make sense of it all
Hope you just don't stop praying
When the water does fall
Standing in the rain
Ain't gonna leave you dry
So stand up and feel the light
Don't you wanna see
All that you've got inside
Your love is pure, one of a kind
Standing in the rain
Ain't gonna leave you dry
So take the chains off your world
'Cause they ain't gonna do you well
Take the lock from your heart
Open it, 'cause it ain't hard
It ain't hard
Oh woman just don't stop praying
When the water does fall
'Cause standing in the rain
Ain't gonna leave you dry
Stand up and feel the light
Don't you wanna see
All that you've got inside
Oh woman, 'cause your love pure, one of a kind
Standing in the rain
Ain't gonna leave you dry
See, your love is one a kind
Standing in the rain
Ain't gonna leave you dry
Dry..
The song "Standing in the Rain" by Jamie Scott & The Town is a melancholic yet hopeful ballad about the pain of unrequited love and the myth of standing in the rain as a romantic gesture. The song's narrator addresses a woman who has been hurt by a lover who did not reciprocate her feelings. She is confused and lost, wondering how she got to this point and why the object of her affection doesn't love her back. The singer urges her not to give up hope and to keep praying, even when it seems like the rain will never stop falling.
The chorus repeats the titular phrase "standing in the rain," but subverts its romantic connotations by suggesting that it won't alleviate the woman's pain or bring her any closer to the love she desires. The bridge encourages her to take control of her life and emotions, to remove the metaphorical chains and locks that have been holding her back from being truly happy and fulfilled. The final repetition of "standing in the rain" shifts the focus to the woman's pure and unique love, rather than the rain or the object of her affection. The song ends on a positive, empowering note, with the singer assuring her that her love will not leave her dry.
Overall, "Standing in the Rain" is a poignant and relatable exploration of the trials and tribulations of love, and a reminder to keep hope alive in the face of disappointment and heartache.
