When I lay awake at night
I'm feeling you.
Do you see me
I'm seeing you.
Do you hear me
When I dream at night
And I try to tell you
That I need someone
A connection
To try & live again
CHORUS
I keep waiting
Straight through the night
I keep waiting
For things to turn out right
I keep waiting
Living in a dream
And I'm somehow stuck here
In between.
Every night's the same
I tell myself to slip away
In my mind I wait
To see your face
I breathe your name
Do you hear me
When I dream at night
And try to tell you
That I need someone
A connection
To try & live again.
CHORUS
Do you hear me
When I scream at night
And try to tell you
I kept waiting
Straight through the night
Try to tell you
Things just ain't right
I keep waiting
Living in a dream
And somehow stuck here
In between
In between.
The song "In Between" by Jamie Walters conveys a sense of loneliness, longing, and a desperate need for connection. The singer of the song is in a limbo-like state, forever waiting for something to happen, uncertain of what they want or how to get it.
The first stanza speaks to the singer's intense desire to connect with someone - anyone - even if it's just in their dreams. They want to be seen, heard, and felt, to have a real connection with another human being. The second stanza speaks to their struggle with this desire: they try to escape from their own thoughts, but their mind always returns to thoughts of the one they long for. The chorus repeats the phrase "I keep waiting" over and over again, emphasizing the singer's stagnation and sense of being stuck in place. Despite their desperation, they cannot seem to break free from this state of waiting.
The final stanza takes a darker turn. The singer is not just waiting and dreaming - they're screaming out for help, for someone to hear them and understand their pain. They acknowledge that things are not right, that they need someone to help them find their way out of this in-between state of being. But even as they scream out, they remain trapped, waiting and dreaming.
Overall, the song paints a portrait of someone who is lost, alone, and struggling to find a way forward. Their desire for connection is palpable, but so is their frustration and sense of being stuck. "In Between" is a powerful commentary on the human condition, and a reminder that sometimes, the hardest battles we fight are the ones within our own minds.
