The band made their debut under Acid Jazz Records but subsequently found mainstream success under Sony. While under this label, three of their albums have charted at number one in the UK, including Emergency on Planet Earth (1993), Synkronized (1999) and A Funk Odyssey (2001). The band's 1998 single, "Deeper Underground", was also number one in their native country.
As of 2017, Jamiroquai had sold more than 26 million albums worldwide. Their third album, Travelling Without Moving (1996), received a Guinness World Record as the best-selling funk album in history. The music video for its lead single, "Virtual Insanity", also contributed to the band's success. The song was named Video of the Year at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards and earned the band a Grammy Award in 1998.

People right across the world are pledging they will play the game
Victims of a modern world, circumstance has brought us here
Armageddon's come too near, too too near yeah
Now foresight is the key to save our children's destiny
The consequences are so grave the hypocrites we are their slaves
So my friend to stop the end on each other we depend
We gotta wake this world up from its sleep
People, stop it going on
Have you heard the news today ?
Money's on the menu in my favorite restaurant
Now don't talk about quantity, 'cause there's no fish left in the sea
Greedy men been killing all the life there ever was
So you better play it nature's way or she will take it all away
And don't try tell me you know more than her about right or wrong
Now you've upset the balance man, done the only thing you can
Now my life is in your hands
Mountain high and river deep, stop it going on
We gotta wake this world up from its sleep
Oh people, stop it going on
Ahahahaha, hehehehehe
Mountain high and river deep, stop it going on
We gotta wake this world up from its sleep
People, stop it going on
Greedy men will fade away, oh they will fade away when we stop it going on
I know it's got to be that way, oh people stop it going on
I'm asking, when you gonna learn to stop it going on
When you gonna learn to stop it going on
Jamiroquai's 'When Are You Gonna Learn' is a scathing critique of modern society and our collective failure to address the most pressing issues of our time. The lyrics are a call to wake up from our slumber and take action before it is too late. The song explores two main themes: the destruction of the environment and the greed and corruption that drives our economic system.
The first verse of the song sets the stage by highlighting the dangers that we face as a result of our modern way of life. The world is facing a crisis and people across the globe are starting to realize that if we don't act soon, the consequences will be dire. The term 'Armageddon' is used to describe the end of the world, which suggests that the situation is very grave. However, there is still hope. The lyrics suggest that by working together and using our foresight we can save our children's future.
In the second verse, the focus shifts to the destruction of the environment. The lyrics criticize the greed of those who have been killing off all the life on earth, leaving no fish left in the sea. The implication is that our economic system is driven by the profit motive, and that this has led to widespread ecological destruction. The lyrics call for a return to nature's way of doing things, suggesting that we need to respect the balance of the natural world or face the consequences.
Overall, 'When Are You Gonna Learn' is a powerful warning about the state of the world we inhabit. The lyrics are a call to action, urging us to wake up and take responsibility for our actions before it is too late. The song's message is as relevant today as it was when it was first released in 1992, and it remains one of the most powerful and thought-provoking songs of its era.
