Baby
Jan A.P. Kaczmarek Lyrics

Baby, baby ag sê vir my
Eintlik jou kamer in my soet doring dryf
Hey, hey
Yeah, yeah
Sunshine lady moet ek ry of bly
Baby, waar kom die vuur in my
Maak my vry, hey, hey
'n Koppie blou, ek kan nie los nie
My baby baby aan jou liefde so so
So soen my
Onder die maan
Soen my en sê jy verstaan
Jy verstaan
Hey lady krap ons na my in daai boom
En a hey lady as die tyd ons skei
Hey, hey
O, baby baby
Baby baby
Is jy lief vir my?
The lyrics of Jan A.P. Kaczmarek's song Baby are both romantic and poetic. The opening lines of the song - "Baby, baby is jy lief vir my? Baby, baby ag sê vir my" - ask the question whether the person the singer is addressing loves him. The lyrics then describe how the singer feels, with images of floating in and out of focus like a room covered in sweet thorns.
The second verse continues with the theme of uncertainty and desire - the singer asks if they should stay in one place, or if they should go, and wonders where the fire in them comes from. The rolling tide of the Saldhana sea is used as a metaphor for the ebb and flow of their passion. The chorus speaks of freedom and release, with the singer expressing how their lover makes them feel free.
The song's final verse is perhaps the most beautiful, describing a moment of pure contentment shared between two people. The imagery of a blueness that the singer cannot let go of and the wind, sea, and albatross allude to the vastness and beauty of nature, which is emphasized by the "perfectly pitch black skylight." Finally, the singer shares a cup of tea with their lover before they part ways, sealing their love with a kiss under the moonlight.
Overall, Baby is a song about desire, uncertainty, and contentment, all woven together with stunning imagery and a unique perspective on love.
