For over 7 years he was the singer, bassist and songwriter of a band who rocked North Germany with a dark melodic grunge-rock sound. After moving to Berlin and being inspired by his influences Jan found his passion in electronic music. Making a tough decision to quit the band, he traded his guitar for an apc40 and 5x8Spur-Matrix and began producing and performing solo.
Today his sound can be described as a mixture of Radiohead, Muse, Bodi Bill, Stephan Bodzin and James Holden - a beautiful balancing act between melancholic, melodic electro-pop and euphoric minimal techno making Jan one of the most interesting and promising young artist in Berlin at the moment."
Back In The Taxi

View from the backseat, whoa
Mexico next week, go
Don't call just text me, no
Please don't forget me, no
Please baby let me go
I don't regret it though
Wasted but happy though
Train station trapped me, oh
Music kidnapped me, whoa
I'm back in the taxi, now
I tried to escape this maze
I tried to displace this haze
I tried to dissolve this taste
When will the tapes be erased?
Let's take the backstreet though
View from the backseat, whoa
I don't regret it, though
You never get me wrong
The lyrics of Jan Blomqvist's "Back In The Taxi" speak of a journey, both physical and emotional. The singer is travelling through life, both physically in the backseat of a taxi, and emotionally in a state of confusion and uncertainty. The reference to Mexico suggests a larger journey ahead, a new chapter in the singer's life. However, there is a sense of detachment in the lyrics as the singer asks to be texted rather than called - a sign of a reluctance to fully engage in the present.
Throughout the lyrics, there is also a sense of fleeting happiness amidst confusion and turmoil. The singer is "wasted but happy" and finds solace in music, which has, in many ways, "kidnapped" them, taking them on a journey that they may not have chosen for themselves. The singer is trying to escape a "maze" and a "haze," trying to "dissolve this taste" which suggests they are trying to make sense of something or someone that has left a bad taste in their mouth. In the end, however, there is a sense of resignation as the singer notes that they "never get me wrong" and chooses to accept the journey they are on, however confusing or chaotic it may be.
Overall, the lyrics of "Back in the Taxi" convey a sense of restlessness, uncertainty, and a search for meaning. The singer is trying to make sense of their journey, sometimes finding solace in the moment, sometimes seeking the escape of physical and emotional detachment.
