Wat daar in my plek hang
Jerusalem Jerusalem
Jerusalem Jerusalem
'n Nuwe dag breek aan
Hosanna in die Hoogste
Hosanna loof Sy Naam
Hosanna aan die Koning
Hosanna loof Sy Naam
The song Jerusalem by Jan De Wet speaks of a dream he had where he found himself in the holy city of Jerusalem. As he stood there, he saw the temple of God in front of him and heard the voices of children singing praises to God. Then, he heard the angels joining in the chorus and singing praises, as well. The lyrics continue as the dream shifts and suddenly, darkness descends and the earth begins to shake. At this point, the singer sees three crosses, and on one of them, he sees Jesus hanging in his place. As he continues to watch, the sky clears, and he witnesses a city of pure gold, with God Himself at the center. This city is the new Jerusalem, where all those who have been washed in the blood of the Lamb can enter and live forevermore.
The song reflects on the final judgment and the hope of eternal life. The use of imagery, such as the pure city of gold and pearls, adds to the significance of the message. However, the most crucial part of the song is the message of salvation through the Cross of Jesus Christ, how he gave himself up as a sacrifice for us so that we could be saved and be with Him forever.
