Don't You Know
Jan Hammer Group Lyrics

Rocky road, silver cloud
Why did you ever wonder?
How could you ever doubt me I can't work it out?
Don't you know that I love you?
Don't you know that I care?
Winter gone, snow is melting
Don't you know that I love you?
Don't you know how I feel?
I will stand next to you love
Through the sun, through the rain
Let me say it again
Don't you know that I love you?
The lyrics to Jan Hammer Group's song Don't You Know convey the message of love and reassurance to a doubtful lover. The opening lines, "Come and look out the window, Rocky road, silver cloud" are an invitation for the doubtful lover to take a step back and look out the window, perhaps to see the beauty of the world and feel the certainty of love. The next lines, "Why did you ever wonder? How could you ever doubt me I can't work it out?" express the singer's confusion as to why their lover would doubt their love in the first place.
The chorus repeats the message of love and reassurance, "Don't you know that I love you? Don't you know that I care?" The use of "winter gone, snow is melting" as a metaphor for the relationship moving on from a bad phase and entering a new phase of renewal and growth in spring is a beautiful expression of hope and promise. The song's overall message is one of love, commitment, and reassurance that the singer will stand by their lover through all kinds of weather.

@CoolDrifty
This sounds so incredibly ahead of its time. The complexity of the synths, the crystal clear vocals, etc. I honestly thought this came out somewhere in the 2000s.

Absolutely!

that shuffle hi hat is Stevie all the way. This recording is excellent but let's not get lost in joy without context

I was thinking that! I would have believed this was one of the cool new indie bands. The groove would also be great for a hip-hop track (I'm sure it's been sampled at some point).

You probably need to check out the band U.K.... from 1979... synth work is pretty sick. Or try out the album from Passport called "Infinity Machine" in 1976. If you like what Jan Hammer does here, be sure to check out Jeff Beck's Wired album and Stanley Clarke's album of the same name (Stanley Clarke)...

Favorite song from my childhood. My daddy was a DJ and jammed this shit up in the club. Sentimental.
