Stop!
Jane's Addiction Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Señores y señoras
Nosotros tenemos más influencia con sus hijos que tú tiene
Pero los queremos
Creado y regado de Los Ángeles, ¡Juana's adicción!

Here we go
No
No way
No one
Gonna stop, now go!

Save the complaints
For a party conversation
The world is loaded
It's lit to pop and nobody is gonna stop

No one
No one!
No way
Gonna
Stop, now go!

Farm people
Book wavers, soul savers
Love teachers!
Lit to pop and nobody is gonna stop

No one
Move on

One come a day, the water will run
No man will stand for things that he had done
Hurrah

And the water will run

One come a day, the water will run
No man will stand for things that he had done
Hurrah!

And the water will run
Yeah it will run, oh
Yeah it will run, oh oh

Get
Go

Gimmie that, gimmie that your automobile
Turn off that smokestack and that goddamn radio
Hum along with me, along with the TV

Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh
Oh, oh oh oh
No, oh oh

No
One's

Gonna
Stop

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of "Stop" by Jane's Addiction, starting with "Señores y señoras" provide an introduction to the band itself. They declare that they have more influence on their audience's children than the parents do, but they love them all the same. They then shout out their beginnings in Los Angeles with their name, "Juana's Addiction." The start of the song begins with resistance to conforming or following the conventions of the world by stating "No way, No one Gonna stop, now go!" Perry Farrell, the lead singer, urges listeners to withhold their complaints until a party, to let loose and not get bogged down in the negativity of the world. The world, as he puts it, is too "lit to pop" to care about anything so trivial.

He then continues with a list of people: "Farm people, book wavers, soul savers, love teachers!" They are all equally important and no one is going to stand in their way. The refrain of "No one's gonna stop" is repeated throughout the song to emphasize this sentiment. The bridge of the song contains a strong environmentalist message, with the lines "The water will run, no man will stand for things that he had done, hurrah! And the water will run!" They declare that a day will come when the environment will be so damaged that no human being will be able to support it anymore. The song then ends as it began, with the refrain of "No one's gonna stop."

Should have a billion views, Some of the best Rock music ever made.

@nojo9684

I mean I like this song. Why else would I be here? But I highly disagree that it's one of the best rock songs ever. Definitely needs more views though. At the BARE MINIMUM 250,000,000.

Edit: I even just saw them live with the smashing pumpkins a few days ago. Great show. Would definitely go back. I still haven't changed my stance.

@JM-qn3tf

This is rock music.

@DominiqueGarofalo

This was always my favorite Jane's Addiction song. Haven't heard it in years.
