Romantica
Jane Morgan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They say "Romantica"
And when they say "Romantica"
They hold each other tight
Beneath the bright Venetian skies

I was Romantica
And you were so Romantica
I felt it in your kiss
I saw it glisten in your eyes

I gave my love to you
I gave my heart to you
And if you ask me to
I'd do it over again

Now that you're far from me
You never leave my memory
If I but close my eyes
I see your smiling face and then...
I am Romantica again

...
I gave my love to you
I gave my heart to you
And if you ask me to

I'd do it over again
Now that you're far from me
You never leave my memory
If I but close my eyes

I see your smiling face and then...
I am Romantica again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Jane Morgan's song "Romantica" speak of a love that is associated with romantic feelings and experiences. The song begins with the repetition of the word "Romantica" which sets the tone for the entire song. When the singer of the song thinks of "Romantica", she thinks of two people holding each other tightly beneath the bright Venetian skies. This image evokes a feeling of love, warmth, and affection that is associated with being in love. The singer then thinks of how her lover was also "Romantica", meaning that they both shared the same feelings of romance and love. She felt it in his kiss and saw it glisten in his eyes. The singer then goes on to express her love and devotion to her lover, stating that she gave her heart and love to him.

However, the song takes a sad turn when the singer reveals that her lover is far from her now. Despite this, she still carries the memories of their time together in her heart. Whenever she closes her eyes, she can still see his smiling face, and she once again becomes "Romantica" in her memories. Overall, the song speaks of the powerful impact that love can have on us and how the memory of that love can remain with us long after it has ended.

I saw a TV play as a youth and they played this song as a feature to that play. I will always remember mum and myself sitting in front of that black and white TV, warming ourselves by a gas-ring. Have no idea of the name of that play but here I am all these years later writing about it.

Jane Morgan was not only a very attractive lady but had the most wonderful and very distinctive voice of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. This is my very favourite song from her vast favourite catalogue of songs. In 2020 she still provides me extreme pleasure proving true talent and for the grace of god you tube generations can still listen to this wonderful singer and many many more long gone.
