Love Me or Leave Me
Janet Seidel Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You won't believe me that I love you only
I'd rather be lonely than happy with somebody else
You might find the night time the right time for kissing
But night time is my time for just reminiscing
Regretting instead of forgetting with somebody else
There'll be no else unless that someone is you, you, you
I intend to be independently blue
I want your love but I don't want to borrow
I have it today and give back tomorrow
For my love is your love but there's no love for nobody else
The lyrics to Janet Seidel's Love Me or Leave Me express a deep longing and desire for love, but also a sense of independence and self-reliance. The singer states that they would rather be lonely than be in a relationship with someone else, emphasizing the importance of being with the right person. The line "you won't believe me that I love you only" suggests that the singer's love for the other person may not be reciprocated or fully understood.
The second verse continues to explore the theme of regret and nostalgia. While others may find night time to be a romantic and intimate time for kissing, the singer prefers to spend it alone, reminiscing about lost love. They refuse to forget their love for this person, waiting for them even if it means being independently blue. However, the singer is clear that their love is exclusive, declaring "there's no love for nobody else."
Overall, the song expresses a complex mix of emotions, with the singer torn between longing for love and valuing their independence. The lyrics suggest a deep connection between the two, with the singer unwilling to settle for a loveless relationship simply for the sake of being with someone.
