It Looks Like Rain

The sun had not yet risen
Morning not yet broke
It looks like rain
It looks like rain
A little starling swept above my sleepy head
He plucked a single hair
The driver drinking brandy said
"Here is to the day"
It looks like rain
It looks like rain
And every breath I ever took
Every tear I ever wept
Every star I wished upon seemed
Nothing until now
Every prayer I ever said seemed
Strangely answered now
Could it be I'm in love
Could it be I'm in love
I made the driver park the car
Beside the sea
I gazed upon the fading dark
And slowly buckled at the knees
The driver drinking gladly said
"Here is to the day"
It looks like rain
It looks like rain
And every breath I ever took
Every tear I ever wept
Every star I wished upon seemed
Nothing until now
Every prayer I ever said seemed
Strangely answered now
Could it be I'm in love
Could it be I'm in love
Could it be I'm in love
In Jann Arden's song "It Looks Like Rain," the singer wakes up early and flags a taxi, noticing that the sky appears to be cloudy and it might rain. She sees a starling fly above her head, and it plucks out a single hair, making her laugh. The taxi driver offers her brandy and toasts to the day. The singer confesses that before this moment, she felt that everything in her life was pointless. But now, she feels differently. She wonders if it's possible that she's finally found love.
The singer asks the taxi driver to stop the car beside the sea. She takes in the view and suddenly feels her knees buckle. Again, the driver offers her brandy and toasts to the day. The song concludes with the singer repeating the chorus, asking if it's possible that she's finally found love.
Overall, this song paints a picture of someone who has been feeling lost and unsure about the meaning and purpose of their life until this moment when they experience a sudden shift. The imagery of the cloud-filled sky, bird, and sea all evoke a sense of the vastness and grandeur of the natural world. Through these experiences, the singer seems to have found a new sense of inspiration and hope.
