Yet. Machines are still becoming started, more efficient without much signs of slowing down just yet. Therefore we can't gauge how smart ai will become.
To us, right now, machines have unlimited potential, until it starts to slow down.
How do you think the human consciousness, thoughts and feelings became a thing? How was it created?
We do not know. Because we don't know we can never replicate it on purpose yet.
But just because we don't understand something doesn't mean it does not exist.
People thought the earth was flat until I think it was Christopher columbus sailed out to sea with the intent of falling over the edge. Instead he found land, not his land but land, dirt, earth.
The world was always round but because we didn't understand that we made an assumption. But now we know, the world is spherical.
Gravity has always existed but was "invented" by the guy who was slapped with an apple (can't recall his name)
Point is maybe consciousness can develop with enough capacity for intelligence, maybe consciousness is directly connected to intelligence. Maybe consciousness, thoughts and feelings develop on their own.
If that is true then ai will develop its own emotions eventually. And because ai will eventually learn how it was made it can improve upon its own capabilities in the future. This is a luxury we humans don't have, we don't know exactly how to artificially create another human being without sexual organs but if we did then you could end up with a human possessing super human strength because we would know how to do it.
This is just my thought process and while writing it here my brain went for a wonder. Not expecting anyone to actually read this but if u have read till I decided to stfu then feel free to comment on it haha, I'm interested as to others opinions and thoughts on this!

When you say machines will not replace probably the top 25% of smart people you have to think about the lower zone where people are working easy jobs that will be automated and be replaced.
