Laughed Until We Cried
Jason Aldean Lyrics

Goin' through my closet the other day
I found an old yearbook, flipped right to the page of that senior trip
Down there on that Panama strip
We all started yelling when we smelled the beach
Just couldn't wait to try our fake ID's
We only had a few days
And a whole lot of memories to make
Oh man, we were livin'
Didn't waste one minute
We talked, and drank, and danced, and said goodbye
We laughed until we cried

This past year my family
Was sittin' cross-legged 'round the Christmas tree listenin' to granddad
We all knew it'd probably be his last
He was crackin' jokes, and we were takin' turns
Tellin' stories 'bout fishin' or lessons learned
Out on the porch with him
We all felt like kids again

Oh man, we were livin'
Sittin' there reminiscin'
We sang, and talked, and traveled back in time
We laughed until we cried

It's like the best days under the sun
Every emotion rolled into one
A little of this, a little of that
Kinda happy, kinda sad

Just the other night the baby was cryin'
So I got out of bed and rocked her awhile, and I held her tight
And I told her it would be all right
And my mind went back to a few years ago
When we tried so long, we almost gave up hope
And I remember you comin' in and tellin' me the news

Oh man, we were livin'
Goin' crazy in the kitchen

We danced, and screamed, and held each other tight
We laughed until we cried

Overall Meaning

The song "Laughed Until We Cried" by Jason Aldean is a nostalgic tune that talks about reliving and cherishing happy memories. In the first verse, the singer finds an old yearbook that reminds him of his high school trip to Panama Beach, where he spent a few days with his buddies enjoying the beach, getting drunk with their fake IDs, and making unforgettable memories. The singer reflects on their carefree and exuberant nature, where they lived every moment to the fullest without wasting even a single minute. The memories made in those few days remain a treasure to the singer and evoke a feeling of emotional intensity since they laughed until they cried.

In the second verse, the singer and his family gather around the Christmas tree, listening to their granddad telling jokes, and sharing stories about their fishing experience. They could sense that their granddad would not be with them for long, but in that moment, they relished and appreciated the simple joys of life. They felt like little kids again, reliving the moments from their childhood, filled with love and happiness. Just like the high school trip, the singer and his family were living in the moment, laughing, reminiscing the old days until they cried.

In the final verse, the singer recalls when he held his baby to console her and found himself flooded by memories of a difficult time in his life. A few years before, he and his partner were trying hard to conceive a baby and almost lost hope. But then his partner revealed the good news, and they both danced, screamed, and cried like crazy in the kitchen. The singer emphasizes that laughter and tears come intertwined in life and that it's the moments of laughter that make the tears easier to bear.

Overall, "Laughed Until We Cried" is a song that celebrates life's simple joys. The memories made with family and friends, the moments where the weight of the world falls away, and all that remains is happiness and love.

This song always has me in tears thinking my grandpa who passed away in April. He was, and is the best grandpa I could ever ask for. He was a hard worker, loved our family, and loved watching baseball. Can’t wait to see you again papa, but until then Jesus’s got a hold of ya!

I was a young man when this song came out and now not so much. Since then I've lost loved ones I thought I'd never lose . One minute your 23 ,and not a care and the next your 40 with 3 kids and a wife. Time waits on no one, so spend time with your grandparents, great aunts and uncles, cousins...whatever. because time runs out for everybody and next thing you know they're only a memory
