10 speed layin' in the weeds
Cannonball off an old rope swing
Long long summer days
Tennessee was a guitar
First big dream of min
If I made it, yea, that'd be just fineI just wanted to play, I just wanted to play, but,
Texas was green eyes crying goodbye
Was a long drive
A heartache I'm still trying to get through
Texas was you
Carolina was a black car
A big white number three
California was a yellow jeep
Cruisin' down Vixer
Georgia was a summer job
'Bama was a spring break
I got memories all over the place
But only one still hurts, only one still hurts like
Texas was green eyes crying goodbye
Was a long drive
A heartache I'm still trying to get through
Texas was you
Texas was my whole life waving goodbye
Thought I'd die
A heartache I'm still trying to get through
Texas was you
It will always be you
The song "Texas Was You" by Jason Aldean is a reflection on different memories associated with different places in the singer's life. He reminisces about different experiences in different states, such as Ohio, Tennessee, California, Georgia, and Alabama. However, the most powerful memory comes from Texas and the person he associated with it. Texas was not just a place to him but also a person. The lyrics are about how he cannot get over the heartache he associated with Texas since it was the place where he said goodbye to the person who meant everything to him. Texas was where he waved goodbye to his heart and his life, and he thought his life would end there.
The song highlights the bittersweet memories of places, people and experiences in life that have an impact on us. It is a reminder that despite moving on and experiencing many new things, certain memories can stay with us and continue to affect us emotionally. The song's repeated chorus, "Texas was you," emphasizes the significance of the person that Texas represents.
