Gone Gone Gone
Jason And The Nashville Scorchers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One horse town, restless soul
Wondering where the river and the freight trains go
Two lane road, hometown roots
We're never gonna hold back my goodbye boots
Just waiting on ready or not
You know the first chance I got

I got blacktop gone, four lane fast
Topping off the tank with some never look back
Chase that sun, race that wind
With them horses that you can't fence in
Free like a freeway, high on a highway
Cranking up a getaway song getting blacktop gone

Girl you look like you might
Do a little running out on the wild side
I bet that kiss could slow me down
But if you're looking for Mr. Stick Around
Baby that ain't me
It's like I'm born to be

Blacktop gone, four lane fast
Topping off the tank with some never look back
Chase that sun, race that wind
With them horses that you can't fence in
Free like a freeway, high on a highway
Cranking up a getaway song getting blacktop gone

I'm just a good to go, one night show
I'm ready to rock 'til I'm ready to roll

And get blacktop gone, four lane fast
Topping off the tank with some never look back
Chase that sun, race that wind
With them horses that you can't fence in
Free like a freeway, high on a highway
Cranking up a getaway song getting blacktop gone

Blacktop gone
Girl we're getting blacktop gone

Overall Meaning

In "Gone Gone Gone," Jason and the Nashville Scorchers create a classic road trip anthem with lyrics about a restless soul in a small town longing for the rush of the open road. The song describes the singer's desire to leave his small town and hit the highway, with the idea of freedom and the open road calling out to him. He has a wanderlust that he cannot ignore and wants to escape from the mundanity of life and hit the blacktop to join the rush of those chasing the sun and racing the wind. The lyrics highlight the conflict between the comfort of a hometown and the pull to leave it behind, with the singer choosing the latter.

The lyrics convey a sense of excitement and liberation, with the singer describing the freedom that comes with being on the open road. The song is about craving that sense of liberation, leaving behind the past to start fresh on a new adventure bolstered by adrenaline and the sound of the wind. The song taps into the universal desire for breaking free of convention and following our passions.

They were Jason and the Nashville Scorchers when this originally came out. I went to the punk record store and asked them for some rockabilly. He suggested this record and a record by the Shaking Pyramids. I got this one thank God.
