McCoy is also one of the four members of the group The Road Hammers, which has released two studio albums, in addition to charting four singles in Canada and one in the United States.
At around the age of 5, his family moved to Camrose, Alberta, returning three years later. "The cowboy culture really stuck with me. I just fell in love with the music. For some reason, as a little kid, I had some sort of connection with these guys who were singing about these depressing things," McCoy said, citing Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash to lesser known artists like Ed Bruce and Wynn Stewart. "I just didn't have a voice for rock 'n' roll." Jason started playing guitar at age 7[1] and wrote his first song when he was 12[1].
In his teens, Jason owned a rock 'n' roll guitar and was partial to AC/DC. In the 1980s, he joined a band called Three Quarter Country, which performed at legions, Saturday night dances, and clubs in Barrie, Midland, Orillia and other small towns. Jason won a talent contest in Toronto in 1988, allowing him to travel to Nashville to record an album with Ray Griff[1]. He later signed with MCA Records in 1995.
On May 1, 1999, he married his long time love, Terrine Barnes.
McCoy is a third of the country-rock trio The Road Hammers, which also features musicians Clayton Bellamy and Chris Byrne. While it seems the majority of his time is going towards The Road Hammers, he is still maintaining a solo career.
Guardian Angel
Jason McCoy Lyrics

But there's little she can do standing in the aftermath
She just says a little prayer
And slowly wipes a tear from her eye
I've always run faster than my Guardian Angel can fly
I've been blinded by wonder lust when it was all in vain
Drove 90 miles an hour straight down lovers lane
No matter how hard they'd try
I've always run faster than my Guardian Angel can fly
[Chorus]
Where Angels fear to tread
Only fools rush in
And there's very little mercy at the mercy of the wind
When the rain starts to fall
And there's no place to hide
I can hear her softly cry
I've got this tattoo on my memory
A broken heart of glass
Permanent reminders of loving way too fast
And this hunger deep inside of me
That I still can't satisfy
I've always run faster than my Guardian Angel can fly
[Chorus]
Well maybe there's some shadow that I'm trying to leave behind
Maybe there's some rainbow pot of gold I'm trying to find
But I always learn the hard way
It's never greener on the other side I've always run faster than my Guardian Angel can fly
I've always run faster than my Guardian Angel can fly
I've always run faster than my Guardian Angel can fly
Jason McCoy's song "Guardian Angel" is a powerful and emotional tribute to the unwavering support and love of a guardian angel. The song recognizes the struggle of trying to keep on the straight and narrow path, but also the realization that sometimes we fall and stumble, leaving our guardian angel to feel helpless in the aftermath. The lyrics depict the image of a guardian angel saying a little prayer and wiping a tear from their eye, while watching their charge continue to run faster than their tiny wings can fly. The song's chorus offers a warning against rushing in foolishly and the recognition that there is little mercy when caught in the mercy of the wind. McCoy sings of a hunger deep inside that he can't satisfy despite his impulse to run too fast.
The song offers a poignant message about the power of love. Sometimes despite our best intentions, we can't help but follow our impulses and desires, leaving our guardian angel feeling helpless to protect us from the aftermath. The lyrics are a sober recognition of the difficulty of finding balance in life and the challenge that people face every day in making good decisions even when the temptation is great. Yet through the trials of life, the song offers hope that the guardian angel is always there, watching and praying and waiting for us to return to the straight and narrow path.
