Rocket Man

Zero hour nine a.m.
And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then
I miss the earth so much I miss my wife
It's lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight
And I think it's gonna be a long long time
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no I'm a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone
Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids
In fact it's cold as hell
And there's no one there to raise them if you did
And all this science I don't understand
It's just my job five days a week
A rocket man, a rocket man
And I think it's gonna be a long long time
Jason Mraz's song 'Rocket Man' is a tribute to Sir Elton John's song with the same title, and Mraz interpreted Elton John's song to create his own story about an astronaut longing to return home. The astronaut feels high as a kite due to his excitement and anticipation to return home, but he also has an intense feeling of homesickness. He misses his wife and the earth, and feels lonely on this timeless space flight.
The lyrics "I think it's gonna be a long long time/Till touch down brings me round again to find/I'm not the man they think I am at home/Oh no no no I'm a rocket man/Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone" highlight the singer's isolation from society and his loved ones. He feels like an entirely different person in space, and his identity has changed completely. He's become a mere 'Rocket Man' burning out his fuse alone with nobody to share his feelings with.
Overall, Jason Mraz's interpretation of 'Rocket Man' is a sad but beautiful depiction of an astronaut's separation from his family and his life on earth. The song manages to capture the emotions and loneliness of an astronaut in space, and the challenges of living in isolation from the rest of humanity.

Been a fan for about 10 years. This is the reason I still am! Jason's voice is perfection
@gerberfamify
This song was the FIRST song I ever heard Jason sing - completley acapella before he even signed his first record deal. From the moment this talented young man started signing, I knew..... He opened for someone.....I can't remember who and I didn't even care if the main show ever came on stage. I wanted to listen to him all night. He is so incredibly talented!
