Common Pleasure

Used to talk together, go to the park together
In all kinds of weather we would share
This common pleasure with most of human kinds
It was a kind of treasure One that I was surely glad to find
But I got one right here and I'm okay
I'm okay, and you're okay, and we're okay
I'm alright. Everything else is alright sometimes.
Just remember those bones they get broken
And love is not a token of affection
It's not even a real thing, it's a word
So don't you try to but it out with a ring
Cause it's a verb, to love someone
Open up and let them in
Just don't be afraid to set them free again
This ain't no heaven, ain't no hell , ain't no in between
Cause there's just too many faces and places in this world
That I ain't ever seen
I'm gonna keep on keeping on
I'm gonna reap on being strong
I got my head on, though misconnected
It's alright cause I do it protected
I got a day job. I drive a cheap ride
Sounds like I'm gonna fine
You only get one life to learn
There's only so many brain cells that you can burn
And life can take a turn and take away that you've earned
And leave you yearning for more, so much more
Life is gonna leave you yearning for more, more, more
Your stomach's gonna be churning
Wanting more, you're wanting, wanting some more.
You're wanting some more, more, more
Do you want some?
Well I got some right here and I'm okay
I'm okay and you're okay
Ha ha, we're okay
Everything else will be fine sometimes.
Guess what I'm doing okay.
In "Common Pleasure," Jason Mraz remembers a past relationship where he and his partner used to experience simple joys like walking and talking together, going to the park in all kinds of weather and sharing "this common pleasure with most of human kinds." Although this is something he cherished and was glad to find, he acknowledges that people and relationships can often have a limited shelf life, and that even the best bonds can break through the natural course of things. He advises against expecting love to be a one-time transaction that can be exchanged for a ring, pointing out that love is a verb that requires a constant process of opening up and setting free. Mraz's lyrics touch on the idea of limited time and longing for a chance to experience more of life's offerings, and he concludes by saying that he and his former partner are both okay, and that "everything else will be fine sometimes." In this song, Mraz provides a reflective look at the ups and downs of love and the importance of cherishing the moments we have with those we care about.

I remember when we used to walk together
Once upon a time, we used to walk and talk together, go to the park with each other and enjoy this simple but joyful experience. We used to share this happiness with almost all of humanity, which was a kind of treasure that I was so glad to discover.
But I got one right here and I'm okay
However, I don't need the past to experience this pleasure, I have it now and I'm feeling just fine. I'm not great, but I'm alright, and so are you, and so is everything else in our world.
Just remember those bones they get broken
Remember that you are human, and being human means that you are fragile. Don't take things for granted, especially love, which is not just a word or material possession but a powerful feeling and a verb. That means you have to take risks, open up your heart, and let love happen naturally. Don't be afraid to set the person you love free again if that's what they need.
This ain't no heaven, ain't no hell , ain't no in between
Life is not always black or white, good or bad, happy or sad. It's a mix of different emotions, experiences, people, and places. There's no guarantee you'll like everything you see or hear, but you still have to keep on living and being strong, whatever troubles come your way.
I'm gonna keep on keeping on
I'm not going to give up or lose hope no matter what happens. I'm going to keep moving forward, learning new things, and enjoying every moment I have in this world. I might not have everything I want, but I'm going to make the most of what I have, and that's good enough for me.
Your stomach's gonna be churning
You might feel anxious or unsatisfied at times, wanting more from life than what you currently have. However, don't let negative emotions overwhelm you. Instead, embrace your emotions and keep pushing forward towards your goals, no matter how hard it may seem.
Do you want some?
Would you like to join me in experiencing what life has to offer? We may not have everything figured out, but we can still make the most of what we've got. Let's live in the moment and appreciate the simple things that make us happy.
