Love could come a walkin as if
Everything else is meaningless, meaningless
And that's the way it oughta be
Mysteries, especially she
Oh everything else
Is almost meaningless, meaningless
Oh say
And if a time a change should come
You'd remember my name
Oh say
Well I will always feel that way
And if a time a change should come
You'd remember my
You'd remember my name
Keep your eyes open as if
Everyone's a poet as if
Everything else is meaningless, meaningless
And that's the way it oughta be, yea
Mysteries, including me
Oh well everything else
Is almost meaningless, meaningless
Oh yea, oh say
Well I will always feel that way
And if a time a change should come
You'd remember my name
Oh say
Well I will always feel that way
And if a time a change should come
You'd remember my
You'd remember my
You'd remember my name
To be a little bit advanced
You gotta take a little bit of a second chance
On life
You gotta get on up and dance
You better throw all your precious plans
Better wave them goodbye
A buh bye, buh bye, bye bye bye
Ya gotta keep your eyes open
As if everything else is just along
Come along on it's way
And that's the way it oughta be
Well mysteries in everything
Well I say, I say
Well I, i will always feel that way
And if a time a change should come
You'd remember my name
Oh say
Well I will always feel that way
And if a time a change should come
You'd remember my
You'd remember my
You'd remember my name
Lyrics by jason mraz
In “Eyes Open," Jason Mraz encourages his listeners to remain vigilant to the beauty and meaning of life that can sometimes be hidden from view. The first verse in the song, “Keep your eyes open as if/Love could come a walkin' as if/Everything else is meaningless” seems to suggest that one should be open and receptive to love, as it can come along unexpectedly, when one least expects it. However, he also universalizes this advice, indicating that everything else can become meaningless when love is present. Moreover, Jason stresses the importance of recognizing and enjoying life's mysteries, particularly the mystery of a "she", while everything else can wait.
In the chorus, he sings “Well, I will always feel that way/And if a time a change should come/You'd remember my name”. This may suggest that he will never forget the importance of being open to mystery and love, and hopes that listeners will remember his message of being present in the moment as they move forward with their lives.
In the final verse, he encourages listeners to take risks and be spontaneous, urging them to embrace life's unexpected twists and embrace its mysteries.
Overall, “Eyes Open” underscores the necessity of keeping ourselves open to the possibilities of the world, as we are constantly surrounded by forces of life that lie hidden beneath the surface.
