Good Old-Fashioned Loverboy
Jason Mraz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And sing you songs full of sad things
We can do the tango just for two.
I can serenade and gently play
On your heart strings
Be your Valentino just for you
Ooh love, Ooh lover boy
Set my alarm turn on my charm
That's because I'm a good old fashioned lover boy.
Ooh let me feel you heartbeat
Ooh can you feel my love heat
Come on and sit on my hot seat of love
And tell me how do you feel right after all
I'd like for you and I to go romancing
Say the word your wish is my command.
Ooh love Ooh lov-er boy
What're doing tonight hey boy?
Write my letter feel much better
I'll use my fancy patter on the telephone
When I'm not with you
Think of you always I miss you
(I miss those long hot summer nights)
When I'm not with you
Think of me always I love you love you
Hey boy where did you get it from?
Hey boy where did you go?
I learned my passion
In the good old fashioned school of lover boys
In Jason Mraz's "Good Old-Fashioned Loverboy," the singer assures his lover that he can be everything she wants in a partner. He is ready to dim the light, sing songs full of sad things, and do the tango just for her. He can play on her heartstrings and be her Valentino. The singer is bold and confident, wanting nothing more than to please his lover, even offering to sit her down on his hot seat of love. He wants to go romancing with her and declares that his wish is her command. Throughout the song, he expresses his devotion to her, even when they're not together.
The chorus "Ooh love, Ooh lover boy, What're doing tonight hey boy? Set my alarm turn on my charm. That's because I'm a good old-fashioned lover boy" is both invitation and expression of his romantic style. He is clear about wanting to be an old-fashioned lover – paying attention to details such as setting the alarm and using fancy patter on the telephone – without being overbearing. He is respecting the other person's boundaries and preferences – letting them to decide on whether they want to return the love offered.
Overall, the song is sung with a call-back to 70s music with hints of glam rock while still incorporating modern instrumentation. It is a proclamation of love that is both playful and sincere.

As a BIG Queen fan, I've seen many covers of Queen songs... You must have balls to cover a Queen song, because Queen=PERFECTNESS. And mostly, those covers kinda disappoint me.
But this - good grief! Jason, how in the fuck? I LOVE THIS! Best cover ever. Good job!!
