Simple Life
Jason Sturgeon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Let me tell you 'bout my hometown,
The streets roll up when the sun goes down,
The hustle and bustle dont mean a thing,
Except on friday night.

You can drive all night on an old back road,
Raise a little hell and just do what your told,
Better be in that pew on sunday morning,
Or momma's gonna set you right.

()
Around here it's the simple life,
Ain't got to far but I'm doin all right,
Love I believe and for freedom I'll fight,
I'm still livin' a simple life,
I'm happy livin' a simple life.

Two stop lights and an IGA,
Little park where the children play,
Place where people mean what they say,
Say it right to your face.

Lots of friends up and moved away,
They couldn't find any reason to stay,
But they still come back every holiday,
Must be somethin' 'bout this place.

Still have my dreams to make my own way,
I know I belong here just the same.

Around here it's the simple life,
Ain't got to far but I'm doin all right,
Love I believe and for freedom I'll die yeah,
Still livin' a simple life,
I'm happy livin' a simple life you know I'm

Still livin' a simple life,
I'm happy livin' a simple life.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Jason Sturgeon's "Simple Life" depict a small town where the pace of life is slow and the values are simple. The streets roll up when the sun goes down and the hustle and bustle of the town is only noticeable on Friday nights. The song mentions the importance of religion and family in this town, emphasizing the pressure to attend church on Sunday mornings and the consequences of not doing so. The first verse also describes how one can "raise a little hell" on an old back road as long as they follow the rules and go to church come Sunday.

The second verse emphasizes the sense of community in this town, with a little park where children play and a place where people say what they mean to your face. However, the verse also touches on the reality of small-town life, with many of the singer's friends leaving for greener pastures. Despite this, there is still something about this town that keeps people coming back, as evidenced by the holiday visits of those who left.

I'm in a tiny little town right now. 200 people maybe. all dirt roads in this town. 1 school, a small gas station and a grocery store. farmland as far as the eye can see along with mountains all around. I love it here. Peaceful, quiet, and everyone helps eachother out.

Country ain't about trucks and dip, it's what's in your heart, it's a way of life.

I'm from a small farming town in Michigan. Joined the army, got stationed in Colorado and now currently sitting over seas. This really made me think of back home and when I get to see the farm again.

@lawdog53

After many years around the world...I can tell you that this video is absolutely right.....nothing beats country life...towns where still everybody reaches out for their neighbours...opens doors for the next one...gives jump-starts to strangers... carries grocery bags for the elderly ....and having an innocent barbeque with buddies. Country life is my true love.

AMEN to that and How True.
