Tu rames Buttes alors Chaumont plutôt qu'faire Levallois
Tu dis qu't'es Foch, t'as pas Saint-Cloud,
Choisy-le-roi moi j'Bourg-la-Reine, Port Royal
T'as voulu la Couronnes? Maintenant tu peux toujours tracer à Varenne, Charonne!
Alors laisse-toi Bercy

The lyrics to Métro by French rapper Java are a play on words and a clever use of Parisian metro stations as a way to describe social class and identity. The song opens with a dismissal of socialist ideologies and a reference to a famous cocktail bar in Paris, followed by a list of metro stations that are associated with certain neighborhoods and social classes. Throughout the song, Java mocks people who try to claim a certain identity or social status based on the metro stations they frequent. Some of the lyrics are also profane and vulgar, but the overall message is one of questioning the meaning of identity and social status in modern Paris.
The use of metro stations as a metaphor for identity and social class is a clever and original concept. Java is able to make a point about the arbitrary nature of identity and social status by showing how easily one can move between different metro stations and neighborhoods. The song is also a commentary on the gentrification of many Parisian neighborhoods and the way that people often identify with certain areas based on their history or reputation.
The use of profanity and vulgar language in the song is intended to shock and provoke the listener. It is also a way for Java to challenge conventional ideas of what is acceptable or appropriate in music and culture. Overall, Métro is a clever and insightful commentary on identity, social class, and urban life.
