En Noviembre de 1939, fallece su madre adoptiva lo cual lo forzo a trabajar en oficios tan varios como panadero, carnicero, carpintero y lavador de automóviles. Luego se interesaría por el deporte, llegando a ser boxeador (aun siendo un artista reconocido) en la categoría Amateur (aficionado).
Sin embargo fue su pasion por cantar la que hace que empiece a presentarse en lugares públicos conocidos como carpas, Manuel Garay, quien era administrador del Teatro Salón Obrero le ofrecio su primera oportunidad cantando con el sobrenombre artístico de Javier Luquín.
Posteriormente trabajo actuando en restaurantes y formo el "Duo Guadalajara" y luego integrando el "Trío Flamingo", llamado después "Trio México", con sus amigos Pablo Flores y Miguel Ortiz Reyes. A principios de 1948, continúa trabajando como carnicero y se inicia como intérprete solista de música ranchera cantando en las noches con grupos de mariachis en la "Plaza Garibaldi" y cantando en los restaurantes "El Tenampa" y el "Guadalajara de Noche", donde se hacía acompañar del mariachi "América" de Alfredo Serna. Como no tenía sueldo fijo, sus ingresos provenían de las propinas que recibía. Fue entonces que el General Rafael Ávila Camacho lo contrata junto al grupo de Mariachis "Metepec" por un año para actuar en Atlixco, Puebla. Esta gira es muy importante, ya que fue la primera del artista como Javier Luquín. Al finalizar la gira, es contratado en un cabaret como cantante y animador, enfrentando diversa clase de público.
A principios de 1955, es contratado para cantar en el "Bar Azteca", donde permanece por espacio de 4 años. Es aquí donde, a sugerencia de su amigo Manuel Garay, cambia su seudónimo a Javier Solís con el cual lograría la fama artística. A mitad de ese mismo año, lo escucha cantar en el local el guitarrista y primera voz del Trío Los Panchos, Julio Rodríguez quien lo recomienda para una audición con Felipe Valdés Leal, quien era director artístico de Discos Columbia de México . Gabriel Siria, ahora convertido en Javier Solís, resultó aprobado en la audición y se le hizo un contrato para grabar su primer sencillo a fines de 1955. Dicho disco sencillo contenía los temas "Que te importa" y "Por qué negar". El sencillo obtiene éxito en el interior de México y, gracias a ello, es contratado formalmente el 15 de enero de 1956.
Solís continuó haciendo presentaciones en el "Bar Azteca" y también en un espacio de la emisora mexicana XEW en donde se inicia la leyenda del artista y en lo sucesivo, su carrera fue meteórica a pesar de que duró solamente 10 años, grabó más de 400 canciones y se convirtió en uno de los cantantes más famosos de la historia en México
Fallecio el 19 de Abril, a la edad de 34 años.
