In "En Mi Viejo San Juan," Javier Solís talks about the joys and pains of reminiscing about his hometown. The opening lyrics feature nostalgic recollections of his childhood and the dreams he had while growing up. His very first hope is mentioned, as well as his heartaches in love - all of them, he states, are memories of the soul that live deep within him.
Then the song shifts, and Solís sings about how he left Puerto Rico for a foreign nation, though his heart remained in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He couldn't forget his hometown or the sea he faced before leaving, a symbolic farewell to the island he adored. When he sings "Adiós" (Farewell), he's saying goodbye to the beloved region he left behind. Ironically, he says he'll come back and find his love eventually, but the passage of time and ill destiny prevented him from doing so.
As the song comes to an end, Solís discloses that he has aged quite a bit, and his life nears its end. Although he hasn't returned to his beloved San Juan, it remains vital to him. He understands that it is his motherland, and he does not want to die far from it. He concludes by repeating his adios to his adored San Juan, where he desires nothing more than to spend his final days before dying.
