Girls
Jay-Z Feat. Maxwell Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Baby, baby, been a mighty long time
I watched you, even though you would not see baby
(Check it)
Glad to see that you're still so fine and
I remember you back when
Girl you blew my mind
And I saw you, even though you would not see
[Chorus]
Be as you are
Girl it's okay with me
You're such a star
Maybe one day you'll see
That whatever you are
I'm just hoping you'll be, as my girl, girl
Oh I need to be back
Back by your side
Sugar back way back when
Kissing was a crime
I miss you and I know you miss me
Baby, oh
Baby, baby, baby
[Chorus]
Babygirl, showing off cars with the laughter
You're my world (my world)
Paradise from deception
How about you and me ever after as my girl?
[Chorus: x2]
The song "Girls" by Jay-Z featuring Maxwell talks about a long-lost love. The first verse reminisces about the past, where Jay-Z watched the girl he was in love with, even though she was not aware of him. He remembers how beautiful she was, and even after all these years, she still takes his breath away. The chorus is an affirmation of love, where Jay-Z wants the girl to be herself and become his girlfriend. He is not interested in changing her, and he accepts her for who she is.
The second verse talks about the longing for the past, where Jay-Z needs to be by her side, just like they were before. He talks about how kissing her was considered a crime, and how much he misses her. The last chorus repeats the sentiment of wanting her as his girl, forever and always.
The song has a slow, romantic vibe, and Maxwell's voice adds to the soulful feel. The lyrics express Jay-Z's vulnerability, and the chorus shows his willingness to accept her for who she is.

I know we always romanticize older songs but come on, this sound and style needs to make a comeback.
@dtxspeaks268
It probably will, just watered down unfortunately. Most hip hop from 2014 to now is a watered version of 90s/early 2000s dirty south crunk and horrocore
