Walkin' In The Rain
Jay & The Americans Lyrics

I want him, and I need him,
And someday someway woo I'll meet him
He'll be kind of shy, and real good lookin' too
And I'll be certain he's my guy by the things he'll like to do

Like walking in the rain (like walking in the rain)
And wishing on the stars (and wishing on the stars) up above
And being so in love

When he's near me, I'll kiss him,
And when he leaves me woo I'll miss him
Though sometimes we'll fight, I won't really care
And I'll know it's gonna be alright 'cause we've got so much we share

Like walking in the rain (like walking in the rain)
And wishing on the stars (and wishing on the stars) up above
And being so in love

(Johnny) no no he'll never do
(Bobby) no it isn't him too
They would never no they'd never never ever ever love
Walking in the rain (like walking in the rain)
And wishing on the stars (and wishing on the stars) up above
And being so in love

Oh oh oh where can he be oh oh

This was my first "favorite song" when I was nine years old. I still have the 45 RPM I bought for 77 cents, using that week's allowance. I played it over and over on my old Montgomery Ward phonograph. It stands the test of time!

That's great you still have the original Scott :)

David Maslow

Scott Erb, very cool 😎

@Erica Lee I remember 77 cents and the responsibility of giving up something else. Sweet memories.

Erica Lee

77 cents was what I paid for my 1st 45, but it was Sweet Caroline!

Nice one, Scott (incidentally, I'm British).

So very sorry to hear about Jay Black's passing. What an amazing voice he had! This song was one of my favorites. When I think of all the great songs of 1969, this one is right up there! Sincere condolences to his family.

@5stringvocal For sure. It's obvious we have great musical taste! It was a fabulous combination of the 5th Dimension vocals and the songs of Laura Nyro.

@lovesmusic36 Always loved Marilyn McCoo too. Great singer & beautiful lady as well.

@5stringvocal Yes, he certainly did! Gary Puckett also for sure. I'd like to add a female to the group. How about Marilyn McCoo of the 5th Dimension?
