Heartbreaker
Jay Z and Mariah Carey Lyrics

Give me your love
Give me your love
Give me your love
Give me your love
Give me your love
Give me your love
Give me your love
Give me your love

You gotta bounce to it like this
You almost gotta walk to this
Uh huh
Escape

Boy your love's so good
I don't want to let go
And although I should
I can't leave you alone
'Cause you're so disarming
I'm caught up in the midst of you
And I can not resist, and oh

Boy if I do
The things you want me to
The way I used to do
Would you love me, baby
Hold me, feeling now
Go and break my heart

Heartbreaker, you got the best of me
But I just keep on coming back incessantly
Oh why, did you have to run your game on me
I should have known right from the start
You'd go and break my heart

Give me your love, give me your love
Give me your love, give me your love
Give me your love, give me your love
Give me your love, give me your love
Give me your love, give me your love
Give me your love, give me your love
Give me your love, give me your love
Give me your love, give me your love

It's a shame to be so euphoric and weak
When you smile at me
And you tell me the things that you know
Persuade me to relinquish my love to you
But I can not resist at all

Boy if I do
The things you want me to
The way I used to do
Would you love me, baby
Hold me, feeling now
Go and break my heart

Heartbreaker, you got the best of me
But I just keep on coming back incessantly
Oh why, did you have to run your game on me
I should have known right from the start
You'd go and break my heart

She want to shop with Jay, play box with Jay
She want to pillow fight in the middle of the night
She want to drive my Benz with five of her friends
She want to creep past the block spyin' again
She want to roll with Jay, chase the skeeos away
She want to fight with lame chicks, blow my day
She want to inspect the rest, kick me to the curb
If she find a strand of hair longer than hers
She want love in the jacuzzi, rub up in the movies
Access to the old crib, keys to the new crib
She want to answer the phone, tattoo her arm
That's when I gotta send her back to her moms
She call me "Heartbreaker"
When we apart, it makes her
Want to get a piece of paper, scribble "I hate ya"
But she know she love Jay because
She love everything Jay say, Jay does and uh

Heartbreaker, you got the best of me
But I just keep on coming back incessantly
Oh why, did you have to run your game on me
I should have known right from the start
You'd go and break my heart

Heartbreaker, you got the best of me
But I just keep on coming back incessantly
Oh why, did you have to run your game on me
I should have known right from the start
You'd go and break my heart

Heartbreaker, you got the best of me
But I just keep on coming back incessantly
Oh why, did you have to run your game on me
I should have known right from the start
You'd go and break my heart

Heartbreaker, you got the best of me
But I just keep on coming back incessantly
Oh why, did you have to run your game on me
I should have known right from the start
You'd go and break my heart

Give me your love, give me your love
Give me your love, give me your love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Heartbreaker" by Jay Z and Mariah Carey explore the dynamics of a tumultuous romantic relationship. Mariah sings about being unable to resist the charms of her lover, despite knowing that he is trouble. She asks if he would still love her if she did the things he wanted her to do, and then acknowledges that he has already broken her heart. The chorus repeats the title, emphasizing the pain and frustration of being unable to escape such a relationship. Jay Z adds a rap verse in which he describes the demands of his own lover, who wants everything from him but ultimately still loves him.

The lyrics to "Heartbreaker" are evocative of the classic R&B love songs of the past. Mariah's vocals express both vulnerability and strength, conveying the pain of heartbreak while also asserting her own power within the relationship. The repetition of the chorus reinforces the cycle of heartbreak and temptation that characterizes the song's narrative. Meanwhile, Jay Z's verse offers a more modern take on the theme, presenting a more caustic vision of romantic relations.

Same.

Although I unfortunately can’t stand any of her music after 2004.

First five albums are amazing!

Butterfly and Rainbow are a nice smooth calm R&B fun albums and are an interesting cool change.

Then albums like Glitter, Charmbracelet, and The Emancipation of Mimi of the early 2000s are the okay ones.

But once the late 2000s started I realize I can’t stand her music from 11th E=MC² to 15th album Caution. But that’s just me and she has a 16th album coming out in 2022.

Earth Boy Sun And Rain.

You have to listen to this with headphones to hear how intricate her layered background vocals are. Her harmonies are heavenly.

Turn the balance down slightly also on the right ear and do the same with the left and listen to the different tones also.

New temp Phone-Ash

I know I am being disrespectful saying she is perfect, but maybe I am just that dumb

John N.

I never knew until the past 5 months that there were background vocals of just Mariah repeating and harmonizing with Jay-Z's rap verses, it really does show how intricately she could style her work.
