Snow White
Jaymay Lyrics

Snow white and so on
Reminds me of what I can't quite put my finger upon
The key piano and otherwise
Secret upon secret I promise to hide
I love you but I'm gonna keep quiet about it
I love you but I'm keepin' my mouth shut about it
Walking back in to the living room
Where I do nothing like sing
Or play piano until the cow comes home
And when the phone rings
I don't dare answer
I love you but I'm gonna keep quiet about it
I love you but I'm keepin' my mouth shut about it
Outside the window a shower scattered
Drop after drop of sound pitter-pattered
Pitter-pattered, pitter-pattered
The wall is white and streaked and splattered
The pipes are broken, the leak, oh, no matter to me
'Cause I prefer this distraction
When the piano calls off key
I love you but I'm gonna keep quiet about it
I love you but I'm keepin' my mouth shut about it
In "Snow White," Jaymay sings about a person who reminds her of something she can't quite describe. She likens this person's appearance to that of Snow White and hints at some sort of mystery surrounding their identity. The key, piano, and secrets upon secrets mentioned suggest that there is something hidden or unknown about this person that Jaymay is trying to uncover. However, she promises to keep whatever she finds out to herself.
The chorus of the song reveals that the reason Jaymay is keeping quiet is that she loves this person but is unable or unwilling to express her feelings. She repeats the phrase "I love you, but I'm gonna keep quiet about it" twice, emphasizing the inner struggle she is facing. The second verse describes Jaymay's living room, where she spends her time not singing or playing piano, even though she has a piano in the room. She ignores the ringing phone, perhaps refusing to be distracted from her thoughts.
In the final verse, Jaymay describes the rain outside and the state of her apartment walls and pipes. Despite the chaos and distractions, she finds comfort in the sound of her off-key piano playing. The repetition of the chorus reinforces that Jaymay is keeping her feelings to herself, unable to vocalize them.
Overall, "Snow White" captures the complicated and often-conflicting emotions of love and the struggle to express them.

The cover reminds me of Regina Spektor's 'Two Birds'. Has anyone else noticed that Regina Spektor and Jaymat have very similar voices and music styles?
pshimcool1
Definitely. I put on Pandora station for Jaymay and the second song was Regina, and I was thinking the same. Perhaps she is a secret artist, playing the role of both so beautifully...

That is kind of the Anti-Folk female standard, no? No complaints here, I enjoy both of them thoroughly.
