Released in May, 2013, Young’s Dark Star EP received immediate label interest and blog acclaim upon its release – being featured by the likes of Nylon Magazine, Earmilk, and Noisey, as well as topping the #1 spot numerous times on Hype Machine’s “Most Popular Tracks” list.
Having just finished a North America & UK tour this fall with British indie pop trio London Grammar, Young sets to work on his much anticipated debut album, set to be released in 2014.
Spaces
Jaymes Young Lyrics

I haven't seen it in a while
I start to wonder how we drifted all these miles away
And I wake up in the middle of the night from a bad dream
But the only nightmare is this reality
And the silence is the hardest part
Empty spaces we used to fill
Empty pages we used to fill
Ohhhh, ohhhh, ohhhhh, oh, oh
Empty spaces we used to fill
I start to panic
Something's pulling me to you
Run out the door I don't know where I'm running to, ooh
Remember the night we sat on the beach and you said
(And you said)
Oh, the stars and the oceans made us feel insignificant
And the silence was the hardest part
Empty spaces we tried to fill
(We tried to fill)
On a night in with these dreams of ours
Empty pages we tried to fill
Ohhhh, ohhhh, ohhhhh, oh, oh
Ohhhh, ohhhh, ohhhhh, oh, oh
Empty pages we tried to fill
From the violence of those day stars
Endless lifetimes we tried to build
Broke the silence with these beating hearts
Endless spaces we tried to fill
Empty spaces we tried to fill
The lyrics to Jaymes Young's song "Spaces" convey a sense of longing and loss after a relationship has ended. The first verse talks about missing the person's face and wondering how they drifted apart so far. The second line talks about waking up from a bad dream, only to realize that the reality is worse than the nightmare. The chorus mentions how the silence is the hardest part, how the empty spaces and pages they used to fill with each other are now gone. The bridge brings back a memory of the night they sat on the beach, and how the stars and the ocean made them feel insignificant.
The song appears to be about a relationship that has ended and the emptiness that remains after it is gone. The verses talk about the physical absence of the person, but also the emotional void that they used to fill. The chorus emphasizes how difficult it is to confront the silence and emptiness left behind. The bridge, while seemingly nostalgic and sweet, only serves to highlight how much has been lost.
In conclusion, "Spaces" is a poignant song about lost love and what remains after it is gone. It is a reminder that the emotional bond between two people can have a profound impact on their lives, even when the relationship has ended.
