He gained fame for his starring role in the 2004 French film Les Choristes. Maunier plays Pierre Morhange, a delinquent with an exceptional singing voice at the correctional school Fond de L'Etang. The original soundtrack of Les Choristes features Maunier and the children's choir Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc (full name is La Chorale des Petits Enfants De Saint-Marc). Christophe Barratier, the director of Les Choristes, chose Maunier for his vocal talent and appearance. Maunier has since left the choir.
In 2005, Maunier also sang in Concerto pour Deux Voix (Concerto for Two Voices) with Clémence Saint-Preux. He also played a young miner, Robert, in the 2005 television series Le Cri.
Maunier also lent his voice to the animated film Piccolo, Saxo et Compagnie, a musical adventure starring musical instruments and notes. Maunier is Saxo, a cheeky character that loves improvisation and helps Piccolo on a wild adventure.
His most recent feature film, Le Grand Meaulnes, opened in theaters in France on October 4, 2006. He stars opposite Clémence Poésy and Nicolas Duvauchelle. Jean-Baptiste will embody the role of François Seurel, also the narrator of the story. The story details the adventures of François and his friend Augustin Meaulnes (Duvauchelle).
Maunier's newest film, Hellphone, was released on March 28th, 2007. He acts as the main character, Sid.
Though Jean-Baptiste has not completely abandoned singing, it is clear that his vocal career is on hiatus for now. He still sings with Les Enfoirés, a chorus of the biggest stars in France that periodically performs benefit concerts.
Je pars
Jean-Baptiste Maunier Lyrics

The lyrics to Jean-Baptiste Maunier's song "Je pars" convey a sense of longing, self-discovery, and the bittersweet nature of leaving behind someone you love. The first paragraph expresses the desire to love someone like never before, but also the decision to depart. The singer speaks of building a beautiful house and giving it the loved one's name, indicating a desire for a future together. However, they reiterate their intention to leave, implying a conflict between love and personal aspirations.
The second paragraph emphasizes the recurring theme of departure. The singer states that they are already gone and will conclude their life in the same place, under the cover of their loved one's nights, near their special spot. The mention of the village bells marking the hours suggests the passing of time and the fleeting nature of their happiness, as the departure is imminent.
In the third paragraph, the singer reflects on their life, describing it as a life of dreams but also one that constantly walks on without respite. They carry a heavy backpack filled with songs, which symbolizes the emotional baggage they carry with them. The backpack represents their home and the songs within it, emphasizing the importance of music and creativity in their life. However, even with this sense of attachment, they are ready to leave.
In the final paragraph, the singer admits to already being gone before they have spoken their sentiments. They have learned to be quick-witted and resourceful in life, implying a level of adaptability and resilience. They have no hidden agenda, just a desire for a small piece of land and the hope that rain will come to nurture it. The lyrics suggest a longing to grow and find purpose elsewhere, even though they yearn to touch and hear the loved one's whispers. The repetition of "je pars" emphasizes the constant departure and the singer's inevitable leaving.
