He gained fame for his starring role in the 2004 French film Les Choristes. Maunier plays Pierre Morhange, a delinquent with an exceptional singing voice at the correctional school Fond de L'Etang. The original soundtrack of Les Choristes features Maunier and the children's choir Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc (full name is La Chorale des Petits Enfants De Saint-Marc). Christophe Barratier, the director of Les Choristes, chose Maunier for his vocal talent and appearance. Maunier has since left the choir.
In 2005, Maunier also sang in Concerto pour Deux Voix (Concerto for Two Voices) with Clémence Saint-Preux. He also played a young miner, Robert, in the 2005 television series Le Cri.
Maunier also lent his voice to the animated film Piccolo, Saxo et Compagnie, a musical adventure starring musical instruments and notes. Maunier is Saxo, a cheeky character that loves improvisation and helps Piccolo on a wild adventure.
His most recent feature film, Le Grand Meaulnes, opened in theaters in France on October 4, 2006. He stars opposite Clémence Poésy and Nicolas Duvauchelle. Jean-Baptiste will embody the role of François Seurel, also the narrator of the story. The story details the adventures of François and his friend Augustin Meaulnes (Duvauchelle).
Maunier's newest film, Hellphone, was released on March 28th, 2007. He acts as the main character, Sid.
Though Jean-Baptiste has not completely abandoned singing, it is clear that his vocal career is on hiatus for now. He still sings with Les Enfoirés, a chorus of the biggest stars in France that periodically performs benefit concerts.

On hivernera
The song "Je reviens" by French singer and actor Jean-Baptiste Maunier tells the story of someone who is traveling and experiencing weather patterns that seem out of place. It's snowing in Port-au-Prince, while it's still raining in Chamonix. The Garonne River is being crossed on foot, while the sky in Paris is bright blue. The singer's love is urged to stay inside as the world seems to be in chaos, with people freezing in the south and sweating in the north. The lyrics also express a sense of homesickness and wanting to return to a place that is warm and familiar.
The chorus of the song, "Fais du feu dans la cheminée / Je reviens chez nous / S'il fait du soleil à Paris / Il en fait partout" (Light a fire in the fireplace / I'm coming home / If it's sunny in Paris / It's sunny everywhere) emphasizes the idea of returning home and finding comfort in the warmth and love of the people waiting for the singer.
The final verse of the song introduces the idea of returning from a trip with a newfound love for gardening, with the singer bringing back a taste that was once strange but now feels familiar. The song ends on a hopeful note, with the singer looking forward to "hibernating" with their love through the winter.
Overall, "Je reviens" is a song about finding moments of warmth and love in the midst of chaos and uncertainty, and holding onto those feelings as a source of comfort and hope.

Lyrics:
Comme on se retrouve
Comme on se retrouve
Comme on se retrouve seul
A passer la nuit dehors
Dans le royaume des remords
J'ai peur que tu m'en veuilles
Au départ on s'égare
Et pour ne plus se revoir
Oh oh oh je reviens
Oh oh oh si tu reviens
Oh oh oh je reviens
Oh oh oh si tu reviens
Comme on se retrouve
Comme on se retrouve
Tu m'as manqué jusqu'au sang
Ne sommes-nous comme le sable
Deux êtres friables
Balayés par le vent
On est loin dès l'instant
Quand on prend de l'élan
Oh oh oh je reviens
Oh oh oh si tu reviens
Oh oh oh je reviens
Oh oh oh si tu reviens
Quand le coeur split
Que tout tout va trop vite
Quand le ciel craque
Tout se détraque
Je reviens...
Je reviens...
Oh oh oh je reviens
Oh oh oh si tu reviens
Oh oh oh je reviens
Oh oh oh si tu reviens
Oh oh oh l'air de rien
Oh oh oh je me souviens
Oh oh oh l'air de rien
Oh oh oh je redeviens...
Je reviens...

Some boys in my French class were making fun of his high voice, and my French teacher, without saying anything, played this and just sat back and watched their faces. It was the best thing I've ever seen.
