Born in Le Puy-en-Velay, France, arriving at Bell Labs, New Jersey in 1964, he used Max Mathews' MUSIC IV software to digitally recreate the sounds of brass instruments. He made digital recordings of trumpets and studied their timbral composition using "pitch-synchronous" spectrum analysis tools, revealing that the amplitude and frequency of the harmonics (more correctly, partials) of these instruments would differ depending on frequency, duration and amplitude. He is also credited with performing the first experiments on a range of synthesis techniques including FM Synthesis and waveshaping.
After the discrete Shepard scale Risset created a version of the scale where the steps between each tone are continuous, and it is appropriately called the continuous Risset scale or Shepard-Risset glissando.
Risset died 21 november, 2016 in Marseille, France.

The song "Sud" by Jean-Claude Risset tells the story of a person who is on the run, trying to escape from their past and find freedom in the south. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of their journey, with references to a Buick Eldorado speeding through the Missouri night, the singer's desire to leave behind a life of crime, and their reliance on a guitar as their only weapon and hope.
The song explores themes of redemption, hope, and the pursuit of a better life. The singer yearns for a chance to start over, leaving behind their wasted years and the shackles of their past. They view the south as a promised land, where they believe they can find both the freedom they long for and a chance to make things right.
However, their escape is thwarted when they are confronted by a sheriff, who points a gun at them. In this moment, their dreams of reaching the south and finding solace through music are shattered. The sheriff takes away their guitar, their symbol of hope and resistance.
Despite this setback, the singer remains determined, expressing their resolve to continue their journey towards the south. They believe that freedom resembles the sun, and they see it as their only chance to break free and turn their life around. The repetition of the phrase "Je roule, roule vers le sud" emphasizes their determination and resilience.
Overall, "Sud" is a song that tells a gripping story of a person's quest for redemption and freedom, highlighting the power of music and the desire for a fresh start in life.

Thanks for the upload and accurate description. This is quite incredible, it feels so "new" even if it's 30 years old.
