Autre Histoire

The song "Une autre histoire" by Jean-Jacques Goldman is about the desire for a new and exciting life. The singer is an actor who knows his part in a play so well that he has become bored with the routine. The play is banal and the audience is scarce, to the point that some members are even sleeping. He dreams of a new story, a new role that will excite both himself and the audience. He puts all his effort into the play, but nothing seems to work. He blames the script for the banal story and boring outcome that always seems to happen.
The singer sees others around him who are able to achieve greatness through their passions and ideas, but he feels that he has not been given a chance to do so. He feels as if he is missing out on something greater in life. The desire for something new and exciting is so strong that he is willing to settle for a "derisory farce" if it means he can experience something different.
The song can be interpreted as a call to action to break out of the monotony of everyday life and seek something new and exciting. The lyrics evoke a sense of dissatisfaction and a longing for something more while also acknowledging the limitations and constraints that can prevent us from achieving our dreams.
