The song “Elle attend” by Jean-Jacques Goldman speaks of a woman who is waiting for change in the world. She yearns for a world where good prevails over evil, where people are kind and just, and where the future is bright. The woman is described as waiting ‘inexorably’ which means without any hope of relief or escape. She is waiting for a better future, but this future seems to be slow in coming.
The first verse paints a picture of a woman who is waiting for a change in the world. She wants the strange and unpredictable world to lose hold and give way to a new world, where hope and justice reign supreme. She is waiting patiently, but the world seems to be moving too slowly for her liking. In the second verse, the woman's wait becomes a little more personal. She is waiting for people to change as well. She hopes that they will become better people and usher in the new world. However, this change is yet to happen, and the woman’s hope flickers.
The third verse is a little more melancholic, and the woman is described as waiting without resolution. She is fiddling with her silverware, indicating that she is in a state of perpetual wait, which does not seem to have an end. The last verse speaks of the woman's coping mechanisms as she waits for the new world. She reads old stories of glory, honor, and chivalry which take her to another world. The woman also dreams about traveling and has a love for the classics, which make her feel that she is part of something bigger. Overall, the song "Elle attend” is about waiting for something better to happen in the world, which seems slow in coming.
