Au delà des mers
Un peu plus loin
Mon cœur
Plus loin, un peu plus loin
Au delà des terres
Un peu plus loin
Puisqu'on a pris le temps
On tiendra la distance
Puisqu'il y a des trains
Toujours en partance
Ce monde derrière le monde
Peut-être existe-t-il
Immobile
Il y a un monde ailleurs
Un monde ailleurs
Plus près, un peu plus près
Mon frère
Plus près, un peu plus près
Des barrières, des frontières
Puisqu'on a pris le temps
On tiendra la distance
Puisqu'il y a des trains
Cachés derrières nos trains
Ce monde derrière le monde
Peut-être existe-t-il
Immobile
Il y a un monde ailleurs
Ailleurs
Le voyage paraît-il
Peut se faire immobile
Je connais des diagonales
Qui transpercent des cœurs
Puisqu'on a pris le temps
On tiendra la distance
Puisqu'il y a des trains
On prendra notre chance
Ce monde derrière le monde
Peut-être existe-t-il
Immobile
C'est sûr
Il y a un monde ailleurs
Ailleurs
Un monde ailleurs
Un monde ailleurs
Demain
Rien n'importe moins que demain
Mon frère
Un monde ailleurs
The song 'Ailleurs' by Jean-Louis Aubert is about the longing for somewhere far away, beyond the seas and lands. The chorus repeats, 'Il y a un monde ailleurs' which translates to 'there is another world elsewhere'. The singer seems to be suggesting that there is something missing in their current world, something intangible that they are searching for, and that perhaps they will find it in this other world.
The song highlights the importance of taking time to explore, to travel and to be open to the possibilities of the world. The lines "Puisqu'on a pris le temps, On tiendra la distance" which translates to "since we've taken the time, we'll hold the distance" implies that the singer and their companions have decided to embark on a journey to explore the world and they are confident that they will be able to sustain it. The idea that the journey can also be "immobile" implies that sometimes we do not necessarily need to move physically to have a journey or to discover new things, rather we can journey within ourselves, and through our minds we can travel far.
The song's interpretation could also be that the longing for 'ailleurs' could mean a longing for a better tomorrow, dreaming of a better future, something brighter and different from today. The singer believes that there is something special out there to discover, to reach, to perceive, and that time should not be a hindrance to achieve it.
