This is simply amazing! Did you guys know Django was an inspiration for Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath. Iommi had lopped off the tips of his fingers on his last day of work at a metal working factory. He was crushed as.everyome told him his guitar playing ambitions would rain unfulfilled. His former manager brought him a Django album and told him to listen and to recognize this guy was playing with only two fingers. Iommi was transfixed...and from then over time...Sabbath. of you listen closely to Iommi's leads (especially in some of the older Sabbath albums) you can find traces of Django!

Pro tip: you like good graphics when you listen to music, take LSD, psilocybin, mescaline, or DMT, and listen with good headphones with your eyes closed. I guarantee these will increase the resolution, sharpness, color depth, contrast, brightness, etc. of your imagination as you listen. (But get them from a trusted source and be responsible in your dosing.)
Just a heads up though the dramatic resurfacing of suppressed issues from your childhood, the stripping away of your ego to expose your consciousness in a way you've never examined it before, etc. can interfere with some people's listening enjoyment.

He really loves those sharp 7's over the minor chords and dropping into the minor chords from the flat 2nd. His sense of melody is unmatched I think even to this day. He effortlessly flows over the chord changes like it's nothing to him. When you actually dissect this stuff phrase by phrase you can really see the magic in the note selection. He was amazing.

I agree and all the 'great' manouche gypsy style players since he died should come with a sick bucket hazard warning. His dynamic is insane with top notes driving independent melody. Nobody attempted or dared to record a mimicry when he was alive. Millions practice his improvisations into a sterile monotonous flapping sound and proudly post a video on YouTube. He was a bit nuts I think and everything he plays is totally committed and on the edge. Like always saying 'fuck life taking away half my hand (and leg) I'm gonna show you'.

He plays around the melody. The trick is to know what notes to emphasize. But like another guitar virtuoso Yngwie said, EVERY note matters.

My teacher played this song on an old 78rpm record 50 years ago, it blew me away. My teacher knew django, jammed with him, and put his music to musical arrangements. Also he had a signed autograph picture in his studio!!

Though it would be decades later, and after years of listening to guitar legends such as Jimi Hendrix, someone told me about Django Reinhardt who played guitar with just 2 fingers. I was taught guitar basics by my older brother as a teenager. He showed me how to play lead guitar with just 2 fingers so I wouldn't get frustrated, and I've played guitar that way all my life. Django is an inspiration to all who might otherwise give up on learning a musical instrument. Just pick one up and pour your heart and soul into it. You'll be amazed at what you can do!

I did it exactly two years ago:-D the thing is im lefthanded and learned it autodidact on a right handed guitar. Not easy, but i dont want to learn it lefthanded after nearly 25 years of playing classical guitar. I changed to jazz because its sounds unique and is much more fun playing this technique:-)

I discovered Django Reinhardt on a jazz radio program on public radio in the 90’s. He and Stefane Grappelli just wowed me. Django was quite a musician and he worked with a lot of musicians. I recall Grappelli performing a song he had written in memory of Django. It was simply beautiful and moving.

Ninety years and ten gazzillion recording of this piece later, nearly all played at breakneck speed, unlike this version, the original is still the best. But I am as old as dirt myself and like old stuff best anyhow. There are a few modern players who do great things with this tune, unfortunately most just bury it under such an overdose of speed that their versions sound better if you slow them to 3/4 speed.

People have preferences. And to not like something however technically advanced a piece is, is natural.

I'm not gonna make any judgements just yet but I assume you dislike modern pop?

If you do, then it's natural that you'd express discontentment with a dislike right? Some people dislike Django Reinhardt's playing and it's okay to not like it and to dislike this video.

But not liking something doesn't mean that a person doesn't understand the art of soloing or the art of guitar playing now does it?
