Feet Touch The Ground
Jebediah Lyrics

So I thought the worst was over
When my heart stopped beating again
And the weak side of my body has come undone
Through trusting them

So we walked into the building
Took the lift to the third floor
Pain lies behind that door what am I to do now?

When what they tell me is what they sell me
When what they tell me is what they sell me

And I know to be realistic
Will save me from the shock to come
Any fool believes what you tell them
Happiness in being dumb

So we listened to the experts
Everyone needs some kind of guide to help them
See deep inside what am I to do now?

When what they tell me is what they sell me
When what they tell me is what they sell me
And it's not the truth
But I'm not calming down
'Till my feet touch the ground

So I thought the worst was over
When my heart stopped beating again
And the weak side of my body doubled up
I'm never trusting them

So don't listen to the experts
'cause I've seen they don't know anything
Can you hear the truth ring what am I to do now?

When what they tell me is what they sell me
When what they tell me is what they sell me
And it's not the truth
But I'm not calming down
'Till my feet touch the ground
No I'm not calming down
'Till my feet touch the ground

(Further away everyday
Feels like your falling away)

No I'm not calming down

'Till my feet touch the ground
'Till my feet touch the ground

Overall Meaning

The song "Feet Touch The Ground" by the Australian alternative rock band Jebediah is a reflective piece on the challenges of trusting others, particularly in the context of seeking medical treatment. The lyrics paint a picture of a protagonist who has recently emerged from a health crisis, only to find themselves confronted with the daunting prospect of having to deal with doctors and medical professionals who may not have their best interests at heart. The opening lines of the song, "So I thought the worst was over/When my heart stopped beating again," express a sense of relief and hope that is quickly shattered when the singer realizes that they are not yet out of the woods.

The second stanza of the song sees the singer and their companions entering a medical building, and the lyrics suggest that they are wary of what they might find behind closed doors. The line "pain lies behind that door what am I to do now?" evokes a sense of dread and uncertainty, as the singer realizes that they are no longer in control of their own fate. The following lines, "when what they tell me is what they sell me" underscore the idea that the medical industry is a business first and foremost, and that patients are often sold treatments and procedures that are not necessarily in their best interests.

The chorus of the song repeats the refrain "when what they tell me is what they sell me," emphasizing the theme of mistrust that runs throughout the lyrics. The singer seems to have little faith in the experts and guides that are supposed to help them, and instead puts their trust in the simple act of touching the ground with their feet. The final lines of the song, "no I'm not calming down/'till my feet touch the ground," suggest a desire to remain grounded and connected to reality in the face of an uncertain and potentially dangerous situation.

Overall, "Feet Touch The Ground" is a poignant exploration of the challenges of navigating the medical system, and the importance of maintaining a sense of agency and self-determination in the face of adversity.

Austrila,Canada and New Zealand had great underrated bands in the 90's.

I'm entirely with you on that, from a Scottish-Canadian perspective. That is one who has lived in each country.... in other words, "I like totally agree. " Yeah, I actually do agree... these bands really do rock my balls!

Agree. I pitched up in Sydney in 1997, from Ireland, and was amazed at the quality of what I heard on Triple J.

I grew up listening to these guys on Triple J but never paid much attention to them, as I was more into heavier music. Listening back on it, I love this stuff. The Australian music scene back in the late 90's was awesome.
