Leaving Home
Jebediah Lyrics

And were you lost for words when everybody finally told you what they thought
You can't keep up with the trend
It makes you lose but somehow everybody always makes up in the end
Oh, was it something that I ate
Oh, didn't even touch my plate
Oh, suddenly I'm feeling great
Do you like me now
[Chorus]
Leaving home, life was never good to me
Leaving home, I smell the morning air
Leaving home, life was never good
You can work it out we're leaving home
I could hear them through the door
As people came in laughing at the way they acted when they were alone
And an argument can start with nothing more than this
To be the light and leave you standing on your own
Oh, am I doing it again
Oh, I'm a loser now and then
Oh, and I smile at everything
Do you like me now
[Chorus]
Hope I like the life I find when I leave everything behind
I hope I'm sure I've made my mind to go and leave home
The song "Leaving Home" by Jebediah explores the feeling of being an outcast and not fitting in with one's surroundings. The lyrics touch upon the struggles of feeling different, as well as the pressures of society to conform to certain trends. The first verse addresses the feeling of being laughed at and losing credibility within one's social circle. The lyrics also mention a discrepancy in tastes in food, which symbolizes the feeling of being isolated even in simple situations. The chorus contains the repetition of the phrase "Leaving home," which emphasizes the desire to distance oneself from the situation and find a new life.
In the second verse, the lyrics dive further into the theme of feeling like an outsider. The song describes people laughing behind a closed door, which highlights the feeling of exclusion and not being included in social activities. The lyrics also mention an argument starting from "nothing more than this," which speaks to the unpredictability of life and the struggles of finding one's place in it. Throughout the lyrics, there is an underlying sense of seeking approval or validation from others, which culminate in the question "Do you like me now?"
Overall, "Leaving Home" is a song that speaks to the universal emotions of being an outcast and searching for belonging. The lyrics touch upon the complex issues of societal pressures and finding one's true path in life.

Everytime I hear this song, I'm instantly brought back to my childhood. Being born in the 80s, a child in the 90s, and becoming a teenager in the yr 2000, was the best. I would not change one thing. 🙂
