Star Machine
Jebediah Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Been thinking of building a ship to the stars
Found plans made in fourth grade should get me that far
Jesus she says I know what you mean
I'll make you then take you my flying machine

I'm over exposure
I need to levitate
Above this experience
I need to find a way today for far away

There's a simple explanation
For the trouble that we're in

The shed light on all night
The work noise outside
The belief in relief found somewhere to hide
Jesus she says I know what you mean
Don't be scared just prepared
My flying machine

I'm over exposure
I need to levitate
Above this experience
I need to find a way today for far away

There's a simple explanation
For the trouble that we're in
Not the lack of inspiration
But it's message from within (X 2)

I've set the date take off's tonight
My star machine takes flight

Overall Meaning

In "Star Machine", Jebediah expresses the desire to escape Earth's mundanity and search for something more. The first verse describes the singer's plan to build a ship to the stars using plans from his fourth-grade days - a metaphor for the childlike sense of wonder and imagination that drives him. He then addresses someone named "Jesus" who seems to understand his longing for adventure and offers to build him a flying machine that will take him away.

The chorus highlights the singer's need to escape - to "levitate" and find a way "today for far away", "above this experience". He believes that there is a "simple explanation for the trouble that we're in", but it's not a lack of inspiration; rather, it's a message from within - a feeling that there is something more out there that he needs to discover.

In the second verse, the singer hears noise outside and sees a shed light on all night, but these distractions only make him more resolved in his quest. "Jesus" offers reassurance, telling him to be prepared but not scared, that his "star machine takes flight" that very night, marking the beginning of a new adventure.

Overall, "Star Machine" can be interpreted as a yearning for something more out of life, a desire to escape from routine and find a sense of purpose and adventure. The flying machine can be seen as a metaphor for that journey - a vehicle that will take the singer to new heights and away from the troubles of everyday life.

Positive and great!

@EmeraldZion

I feel this song is super underrated, it nails the childlike innocence of dreaming to go to space and that part where he says "the star machine takes flight" and the instruments fade in slowly until it's a big eruption of sound is the perfect song ender
