The Sun Is Shining
Jeff Beck Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The sun is shining,
Don't you know it's raining in my heart.
The sun is shining, yeah,
But don't you know that it's raining in my heart.

I know I love you baby,
But the best of friends must part.
I had a dream,
I had a dream one rainy night.
I had a dream,
I had a dream one rainy night.

My baby said she wasn't going to leave me,
So everything turned out right.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Jeff Beck's "The Sun Is Shining" are a powerful display of contrasting emotions. The opening line mentions how the sun is shining, a typical metaphor used to signify happiness and joy. However, the second line counteracts this, indicating that while it may be bright outside, the singer is still feeling heartbroken and sad. The next set of lyrics further emphasize this dichotomy, as the singer professes their love for someone but also acknowledges that sometimes even the best of friends must part ways.

The chorus repeats the same idea, with the sun shining outside serving as a stark contrast to the internal turmoil that the singer is experiencing. The final verse offers an interesting twist - the singer tells of a dream they had in which their partner promised to never leave them. This gives the song a glimmer of hope and a positive ending, suggesting that perhaps the sadness the singer felt was only temporary.

Overall, "The Sun Is Shining" is a multifaceted and nuanced song that offers a deep exploration of conflicting emotions. It captures the complexity of human experience, showcasing the ways that happiness and sadness can coexist within a single individual.

Where are all these wonderful recordings coming from? Only proves how much better Beck was in his musicianship, technique and range of emotions than ANYBODY else. Jimmy Page 👅 my🏀🏐⚽️

jeff has put out so much stuff, some good some bad. I totally admire him for still putting out music and touring, but in my opinion, Jeff never was better as he was back in the 60's and early 70's. he seldom put out an album that wasn't quality, back in the day. I don't really care for the direction he is going in now, but thank God for you tube.

Does anybody know what kind of amplifiers Beck is playing through here? Any boxes like a fuzz or treble booster? His Les Paul has a wonderful clarity and bite to it.
