Twenty Flight Rock
Jeff Beck Feat. Brian Setzer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When it comes to rockin' she's the queen
We go to dance on Saturday night
I'm all alone and I hold her tight
But she live on the twentieth floor in town
The elevator's broken down
So I walk one, two flight, three flight four
Up on the twelfth I'm starting to sag
Fifteenth floor I'm ready to drag
Get to the top, I'm too tired to rock
Well she called me up on the telephone
Said "come on over, baby, I'm all alone"
I said "baby, you're mighty sweet
But I'm in bed with the achin' feet"
This went on for a couple of days
But I could not stay away
So I walk one, two flight, three flight four
Five, six, seven flight, eight flight more
Up on the twelfth I'm starting to sag
Fifteenth floor I'm ready to drag
Get to the top, I'm too tired to rock
Yeah, we sent to Chicago for repairs
Till it's a-fixed I'm using the stairs
I love you, baby, wanna see your face
I love you baby, too much to wait
All this climbing is gettin' me down
They'll find my cold feet over the rail
So I walk one, two flight, three flight four
five, six, seven flight, eight flight more
Up on the twelfth I'm starting to sag
Fifteenth floor I'm ready to drag
Get to the top, I'm too tired to rock
In Jeff Beck Feat. Brian Setzer's song Twenty Flight Rock, the singer narrates his difficulty climbing the 20 floors in a building to meet his love interest who lives at the top. The song opens with the singer introducing his girlfriend, who has a record machine and is regarded as the queen of rock. On Saturday nights, they go to dance, but due to the broken elevator, they must climb the stairs. The singer describes his struggle as he climbs one or two flights at a time until he reaches the top. Despite his exhaustion, he is too in love to resist her and climbs up to see her repeatedly.
The song then introduces a conversation between the singer and his girlfriend, who invites him over while she's alone. However, he declines, citing his aching feet. The chorus repeats as the singer talks about how the climb is getting him down and causing him to sag and drag. In the final stanza, the singer sends his broken elevator to Chicago for repairs and uses the stairs in anticipation of seeing his girlfriend. He loves her too much to wait and climbs even though it's wearing him out. The song ends with a morbid note, expressing the possibility of finding his "cold feet" over the rail.

@muzzaest1969 Yes--the bassist, drummer and guitarist are Imelda May's band. For Jeff Beck's ROCK 'N' ROLL PARTY: HONORING LES PAUL, May's band was the band used for every song while May only sang on certain songs, but still on most of those performed for both the DVD and CD version.
