You and I Alone

It's the same thing every time
And the last thing you will hear
Is the first thing on your mind
Though in telling our lives on and on again
And you try to see the times when it's open
And worry not of regret
It was clear and calm for me
The place just hung with open eyes
And we all knew my machine
Still I'm breathing standing
Trying hard to reply knowing why
The one who sleeps while in motion
Is easily placed as you'll find
How was I to know you'd be their call
Waiting on your own
And everything would change if you were gone
I'm learning after all for you and I alone
But the moments always
Keep me here with you
And I feel worse alone and you do too
The light is moving catching
On to where you've been
And I've decided to stay here
And do it all again
The song "You and I Alone" by Jeff Hanson is a beautiful and introspective piece that talks about memories, regrets, and the value of relationships. The lyricist reflects on how the passing of time seems to make living easier, yet the repetition of the same experiences often leads to the same outcomes. In the end, the things that matter are the moments shared with loved ones, the memories that we hold dear, and the hope that life can be lived without regrets.
The song's opening lines, "Every hour it's easier, It's the same thing every time" suggest that the singer is stuck in a routine, doing the same things repeatedly. The lyricist acknowledges that the pattern is soothing and easy to follow, but he recognizes that he needs to break free and live his life without regrets. The last two lines of the first verse, "And worry not of regret, Please remember the scenery" highlight that the things that happen, good or bad, create memories that cannot be erased. The singer implores himself to cherish the moments and remember the moments that matter.
In the second verse, the lyricist reflects on the change brought about by love and the loss that follows. He acknowledges that his life would have been different if that special person was gone, and he is learning to appreciate the moments he can share with them. The lines, "But the moments always keep me here with you, And the light is moving catching onto where you've been" are a reminder that the memories he shared with his loved one will always stay with him.
In conclusion, "You and I Alone" is an emotional and poignant song that encourages us to cherish the moments we share with loved ones, and to live our lives without regrets.
