Well I'm going down
Down, down, down, down, down
I'm going down
Down, down, down, down, down
I've got my head out the window
And my big feet on the ground

She's gone
Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone
She's gone
Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone
I've got my head out the window
And my big feet on the ground

So I'm going down
Down, down, down, down
I'm going down, down, down, down, down
Down, down, down, down, yes I am
I've got my head out the window
And my big feet on the

Well I'm goin
Down, down, down, down, down
I'm going down
Down, down, down, down, down
I've got my head out the window
And my big feet on the ground
Gone
Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone
She's gone
Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone
I've got my head out the window
And my big feet on the

Well I'm Down
Down, down, down, down, down
I'm going down
Down, down, down, down, down
I've got my head out the window
And my big feet on the ground, yes I have

Well she walked out the door
And I crawled right out there

Overall Meaning

The song "Going Down" by Jeff Beck Group is a blues rock song that is often interpreted as being about a man who has just had a breakup and is processing the emotions that come with it. The first two stanzas are repetitive and serve as a sort of chant or mantra as the singer repeats "I'm going down" and "she's gone" several times. This repetition underscores the feelings of loss and detachment that the singer is experiencing as he attempts to come to terms with the end of his relationship. In the final stanza, the singer acknowledges that "she walked out the door" and he has "got [his] head out the window and [his] big feet on the ground," suggesting that he is ready to move forward and begin the process of healing.

One possible interpretation of the lyrics is that the singer is using the metaphor of going down (down, down, down) to describe his descent into heartbreak and despair. The phrase "I've got my head out the window and my big feet on the ground" suggests that the singer is trying to ground himself and stay present in the moment despite the difficult emotions he is experiencing. This may indicate a desire to stay connected to reality rather than sinking completely into the sadness and grief of the breakup.

Another aspect of the lyrics that is worth considering is the use of repetition. The repetition of the phrases "I'm going down" and "she's gone" reinforces the sense of loss and finality that the singer is experiencing. It also creates a sense of urgency and intensity, suggesting that the singer is actively grappling with his emotions and trying to make sense of them.

R.I.P Jeff Beck. One of the greats of all time. Thank you for all your years of great music. You will be missed🙏🙏

I came to say the same. There is actually a live performance of this that apparently can't be found anymore but it is absolutely mind blowing. Beck is one of those guys that influenced tons of people but still very few ever managed to sound even remotely like him. Such a unique approach and made brutally difficult things look completely effortless. Also he just straight up looked cool with a guitar to the very last time he ever held one.

@Simple Man Guitars The live version with "Ice Cream Cakes?" I never could find the performance of it that I definitely remember. F.M. radio played it all the time in early & mid 70s.

I graduated High School when this album came out, I loved it. Rest in Peace, Jeff. I still can't get over your phenomenal guitar playing along with the lyrics: "I got my head out the window, & my brain is on the ground" It will live in Rock & Roll history.
