Tate was born with spina bifida and had an associated spinal curvature. After studying medicine at the University of Cambridge and beginning a medical career in London, he switched to music and worked under Georg Solti at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, before making his conducting debut in 1979 at the Metropolitan Opera, New York. He held conducting appointments with the English Chamber Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, among others, and was the first person to be appointed principal conductor of the Royal Opera House. He was knighted for his services to music in 2017.

Sublime. Is there anything more sublime, heart rending than the andintino? One of my favorite episodes in all the literatuire, and she plays it like she has a deep understanding. As others have said, the tempo is a little fast, but clearly not rushed. No compromises were made as a result of the tempo. And of course, let me repeat, the sublime andinto! You haven't a soul if it doesn't bring you close to tears.

This is how I met this wonderful concerto and Mrs Uchida. Btw, this K 271 is probably the first great concerto that Mozart composed. The other ones are fine, but this is a gem 😁
