Alive
Jekyll & Hyde Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I keep falling on my feet, and tumble down the street
Yet I will get up again, when it’s time to face the heat
Lies, I’m a saint or I’m a creep, and everything between
So go ahead and call me names, if it makes you feel ok
Upside down, and inside out, ask me nicely and I’ll show you how
I’m alive, and I can take a fight
When all is said and done, bring it on if you wish, take it all out on me ‘cause
I survive, and there’s no fade to white
Where fallen angels lie, with their broken wings and their hopes and dreams denied
I see you staring back at me, now there’s so much to see
Whatever’s gonna get me by, there is more than meets the eye
Why, all I ever do is try, yet it’s not enough sometimes
But I won’t let the cut me dry, rip me up and wonder why
Upside down, and inside out, ask me nicely and I’ll show you how
I’m alive, and I can take a fight
When all is said and done, bring it on if you wish, take it all out on me ‘cause
I survive, and there’s no fade to white
Where fallen angels lie, with their broken wings and their hopes and dreams denied
When people don’t see us the way we are
And some of them take it a step too far, don’t hide, 'cause we’ll be fine
I’m alive, and I can take a fight
When all is said and done, bring it on if you wish, take it all out on me ‘cause

I survive, and there’s no fade to white
Where fallen angels lie, with their broken wings and their hopes and dreams denied

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Jekyll & Hyde's song "Alive" tell a story of perseverance and resilience. The singer admits to experiencing numerous failures and setbacks in life, but they possess an unyielding spirit that insists on surviving no matter what is thrown their way. They acknowledge that people will judge them and label them, but they refuse to be defined by these comments. The chorus's statement that they are "alive" and ready to take on any challenge demonstrates their resilience in the face of adversity.

The lyrics encourage listeners to stay true to themselves and persevere through hard times. The singer acknowledges that sometimes their best is not good enough, but they refuse to let their circumstances defeat them. They reassure listeners that they too can survive, even when they feel as if everything has been taken away from them. The song empowers those who are struggling, reminding them that they have worth and can overcome obstacles.

One interesting aspect of the song is its nod to the classic story of "Jekyll & Hyde." The band name itself references the famous tale of a man battling two personas, one good and one evil. Additionally, the idea of "fallen angels with broken wings" could be interpreted as a reference to the story's themes of morality and redemption.

Another interesting fact is that the song was first released in 2010 as part of the band's "The Truth" album. It gained popularity after being featured in the video game "Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit" in 2010. The song was also used in a trailer for the movie "Riddick" in 2013.

What is this feeling
Of power and drive
I've never known?
I feel alive!
Where does this feeling
Of power derive?
Making me know
Why I'm alive?

Like the night it's a secret
Sinister, dark, and unknown
I do not know what I seek, yet
I'll seek it alone!

I have a thirst
That I cannot deprive
Never have I
Felt so alive!
There is no battle
I couldn't survive—
Feeling like this—
Feeling alive!

Like the moon, an enigma
Lost and alone in the night
Damned by some heavenly stigma
But blazing with light!

It's the feeling of being alive!
Filled with evil but truly alive!
It's the truth that cannot be denied!
It's the feeling of being
Edward Hyde!

animals trapped behind bars at the zoo
Need to run rampant and free!
Predators live on the prey they pursue;
This time the predator's me!
Lust like a raging desire
Fills my whole soul with its curse!
Burning with primitive fire
Berserk and perverse!

Tonight I'll plunder heaven blind
Steal from all the gods!
Tonight I'll take from all mankind
Conquer all the odds!
And I feel I'll live on forever
With Satan himself by my side!
And I'll show the world
That tonight and forever
The name to remember's
The name Edward Hyde!

What a feeling to be so alive!
I have never seen me so alive!
Such a feeling of evil inside—
That's the feeling
Of being
Edward Hyde!

With this feeling of being alive!
There's a new world I see come alive!
It's a truth that can not be denied!
There's no feeling like being Edward Hyde!

I love that the line "with satan himself by my side" is sang exactly the same in the confrontation song. Its beautiful.

Manderly

This comes before confrontation, but I as well love that they brought it back

Your Local Theatre Kid

Also: in this song it says “I feel ill live forever”

In confrontation is says “ill live forever inside you”

So he slowly grows his confidence in living forever as Edward Hyde and not letting Jekyll have control. It’s a subtle thing, but is really big once you notice it

Manderly

@Your Local Theatre Kid Do yoy realuse that as Jekyll came more and more obsesser to stop Hyde, he became almost as insane as the thing he feared most?
