I Could Fall
Jen Chapin Lyrics

And mine the jewels of your mind
I swear I wouldn't get too greedy
I'd leave riches still to find
If I could meet you all over again
And this time I didn't hide
But I revealed to you every last little part of me
I could fall in love with you
If I were close enough to talk to you
If I could soothe your worried head
I would be so grateful if you would just let me in
I'd give you peace instead
If I could take the challenge you offer
Then I would meet you on the way
Our words would dance around each other
And we'd still have so much more to say
I could fall in love with you
You could be the answer to my questions
You could open up my eyes
Maybe someday we could happen
With no compromise
I could fall in love with you
The lyrics to Jen Chapin's song "I Could Fall" speak to a feeling of longing and vulnerability that many of us have experienced in relationships. The verses paint a picture of someone who wants to connect with another person in a deep and meaningful way. The singer imagines opening up their partner's mind like a treasure chest to reveal the riches inside. They also dream of starting over with this person and being completely honest and vulnerable with them, without any of the games or facades that often accompany dating.
The chorus is the real emotional crux of the song, as the singer declares that they could fall in love with the person they're addressing. It's a simple sentiment, but one that carries a lot of weight. The conditional language of the verses gives way to a more decisive statement of feeling here, as if the singer is finally allowing themselves to fully embrace the possibility of romance.
The lyrics also touch on themes of trust and emotional safety. The singer wants to be close enough to this person to "talk to" and "soothe" them, and they are willing to take on the "challenge" of getting to know each other more deeply. There's a sense of risk here, in that the singer is putting themselves out there and hoping that the other person will feel the same way. But there's also a sense of hope and optimism in the way the singer imagines a future where they could "happen" without any compromise.
Overall, "I Could Fall" is a beautifully written song that captures the thrill and uncertainty of falling in love. Its lyrics are deeply felt and evocative, conjuring up images of intimacy and vulnerability that will resonate with many listeners.

For some reason, I had never chanced upon your videos over the years, until I was watching a documentary from last year about Long Island Cares where they were interviewing your mom. So I looked up Sandy's bio on Wiki and there was a link to you, which put me onto your songs. You have won my admiration and interest! It just so happens I met you once, when you were a very small child (3?). I was a guest of your dad's at a fundraiser (he'd invited fans at a concert in NJ back then to this fundraiser). So I and a friend drove out to Harry's place in the Hamptons, played silly football on the lawn, ate grill food, and got to sit in the living room with you kids and listened to Harry play. I hear wonderful echoes of him in your voice...so glad to listen to your voice now.
