Foster started her own label – now called Fosterchild Records - in 2003. Her debut release, Everybody’s Girl, garnered national radio success at the Triple A format, as well as positive reviews, praising her no-frills, unfiltered lyrics. Songwriting awards followed and she has also secured some impressive Film/TV placements, with songs placed in the popular television soap opera All My Children as well as a recent placement in an American Pie movie sequel.
The title track of Foster’s 2006 sophomore CD, The Underdogs, won “Song of the Year” at the Out Music Awards. Foster grew up in a very conservative, Houston, TX, suburb.
Foster credits another outsider, Ani DiFranco, for inspiration in her business model. “Ani did it her way, and she inspired me to do it my way. I’ve created a fairly unique situation. I’ve built a team of people I trust at my label and also, a community of fans,” Foster proudly notes. “It’s always challenging to take off the artist hat and put on the business hat, but it’s a challenge I embrace. My music means too much to me to blindly put it in someone else’s hands.”
Foster’s new album, "Thirty-Nine," was slated for a 2009 release, and a four-song EP, "Songs From Thirty-Nine," is currently available. The video for the single "Closer To Nowhere" recently reached #1 on the LOGO Channel (MTV Network) charts.

Everybody Goes
Jen Foster Lyrics

I'm lost when memories are all I have to breathe
I'm lost when endings are always just beginning
Where did you go? All that I know
Is I loved you way too much
Everybody goes, everybody leaves you
There's no one you can own and no one you could pay
And nothing you can do and nothing you can say
You're gone like oceans of love all blown out to sea
You're gone like everyone who's ever come to me
Now here I am, without you I can't
See myself go on
Everybody goes, everybody leaves you
There's no one you can own and no one you could pay
Everyone's alone and there's no one to believe in
And nothing you can do and nothing you can say
Give me a moment to prepare myself
Give me a moment to put on a better face
Give me a moment to collect myself
As you walk away
Everybody goes, everybody goes
Everybody goes away
Everybody goes, everybody leaves you
There's no one you can own and no one you could pay
Everyone's alone and there's no one to believe in
Jen Foster's song "Everybody Goes" is a poignant ballad about loss and the realization that everyone in life is temporary. Through the lyrics, the singer speaks to a loved one who has left, mourning the fact that they are now alone and struggling to navigate life without them. The singer describes being lost in a world where memories are all they have left and where endings are constantly just beginning. They express their love for the person who left, acknowledging that they "loved you way too much."
Throughout the song, the singer repeats the phrase "everybody goes," driving home the fact that everyone in life eventually leaves or passes away. This theme is further accentuated by the line "You're gone like everyone who's ever come to me." Despite the painful reality of loss, the singer finds a strength within themselves, asking for a moment to "prepare" and "collect" themselves as the person walks away.
In essence, "Everybody Goes" is a raw and honest exploration of grief and the inevitability of change. It speaks to the universal experience of loss and the struggle to find meaning in the face of it. Through her lyrics, Jen Foster captures the incredible depth of emotions that accompany the end of a relationship or the passing of a loved one.
