Foster started her own label – now called Fosterchild Records - in 2003. Her debut release, Everybody’s Girl, garnered national radio success at the Triple A format, as well as positive reviews, praising her no-frills, unfiltered lyrics. Songwriting awards followed and she has also secured some impressive Film/TV placements, with songs placed in the popular television soap opera All My Children as well as a recent placement in an American Pie movie sequel.
The title track of Foster’s 2006 sophomore CD, The Underdogs, won “Song of the Year” at the Out Music Awards. Foster grew up in a very conservative, Houston, TX, suburb.
Foster credits another outsider, Ani DiFranco, for inspiration in her business model. “Ani did it her way, and she inspired me to do it my way. I’ve created a fairly unique situation. I’ve built a team of people I trust at my label and also, a community of fans,” Foster proudly notes. “It’s always challenging to take off the artist hat and put on the business hat, but it’s a challenge I embrace. My music means too much to me to blindly put it in someone else’s hands.”
Foster’s new album, "Thirty-Nine," was slated for a 2009 release, and a four-song EP, "Songs From Thirty-Nine," is currently available. The video for the single "Closer To Nowhere" recently reached #1 on the LOGO Channel (MTV Network) charts.

Well, the last time I checked I was lost and wanderin’ around
‘Cause I know just how it feels to be the best thing you ever had
But still not quite good enough to be the last one
There you go spinning all your wheels
You never know what you’ve got until you lose it
And here I am waiting all these years
You can look all over this great big world
You can look down every street
In every bookstore, on every dance floor
At every girl you meet
You can drive out to California
And chase down all of your dreams
I’m sure you’ll find someone beautiful
But you’ll never, you’ll never find me
Hey, they say that real love is completely letting go
Well, my hands are way up in the air and you’re somewhere in Arizona
Just a few more hundred miles and you’ll have everything you need
Except these arms to hold you when that lie brings you to your knees
There you go spinning all your wheels
You never know what you’ve got until you lose it
And here I am waiting all these years
You're not even here
You can look all over this great big world
You can look down every street
In every bookstore, on every dance floor
At every girl you meet
You can drive out to California
And chase down all of your dreams
I’m sure you’ll find someone beautiful
But you’ll never, you’ll never find me
On Venice Beach
You can look all over this great big world
You can look down every street
In every bookstore, in every dive bar
At every girl you meet
And when you look out over the ocean
From the shores of Venice Beach
I know you’ll find the brightest stars
But you’ll never, you’ll never find me
Oh, you’ll never find me....
Oh, you’ll never find me....
Oh, you'll never find me
Oh...
You can look all over this great big world
You can look down every street
In every bookstore, in every dive bar
At every girl you meet
And when you look out over the ocean
From the shores of Venice Beach
I know you’ll find the brightest stars
But you’ll never, you’ll never find me
Oh, you’ll never find me....
Oh, you'll never find me
Oh....
The song Venice Beach by Jen Foster is an emotional ballad about a broken relationship. The song begins with the singer acknowledging that their partner is searching for something that they have never found, similar to how the singer has felt lost and wandering around. The lyrics then explore the feelings of being not quite good enough to be the last one, despite being the best thing the other person ever had. The chorus highlights the theme of taking things for granted and not realizing what you had until it's gone. The singer expresses their pain and regret as they reflect on years of waiting for their partner, who is not even there anymore.
The second verse continues with the theme of looking for love but not finding it, despite traveling around the world and chasing dreams. The singer acknowledges that the other person may find someone beautiful, but they will never find the singer. The bridge delves into the concept of real love being about completely letting go, but the singer is unable to do so, as they still hold onto the hope that their partner will come back to them. The chorus repeats, emphasizing the pain of losing someone and the regret of not appreciating them when they had them.
Overall, the song Venice Beach is a poignant portrayal of lost love and regret. The singer's emotions are raw and relatable, and the lyrics paint a picture of a deep sense of longing for someone who may never return.

Hey, you say you’re looking for something you’ve never found
You claim to be searching for something new
Well, the last time I checked I was lost and wanderin’ around
Last I knew, I was myself aimlessly wandering
‘Cause I know just how it feels to be the best thing you ever had
I understand the feeling of being the most valuable to you
But still not quite good enough to be the last one
Even though I wasn't the final choice
There you go spinning all your wheels
You're aimlessly running without direction
You never know what you’ve got until you lose it
You won't realize what you had until it's gone
And here I am waiting all these years
I've been waiting for you forever
You're not even here
Yet, you aren't even present
You can look all over this great big world
You can search through every corner of the world
You can look down every street
You can explore every street
In every bookstore, on every dance floor
You can check in every bookstore or every club
At every girl you meet
You can meet any woman you come across
You can drive out to California
You can travel to California
And chase down all of your dreams
And pursue all your aspirations
I’m sure you’ll find someone beautiful
I'm positive that you'll find an attractive person
But you’ll never, you’ll never find me
Although you may find that person, you'll never discover me
Hey, they say that real love is completely letting go
It's said that the true love is about relinquishing control
Well, my hands are way up in the air and you’re somewhere in Arizona
I have no grip, and you're somewhere in Arizona
Just a few more hundred miles and you’ll have everything you need
Only a few more miles and you'll have attained all you require
Except these arms to hold you when that lie brings you to your knees
But you won't have these arms to embrace you when you're shattered
You can look all over this great big world
You can traverse the whole world
In every bookstore, in every dive bar
In any bookstore or shady bar
And when you look out over the ocean
And when you gaze at the ocean
From the shores of Venice Beach
From the coast of Venice Beach
I know you’ll find the brightest stars
I'm confident that you'll locate the most resplendent stars
But you’ll never, you’ll never find me
But, one thing is certain: You'll never find me
Oh, you'll never find me
You won't find me
Oh...
Oh...
